China-made "UFO" to debut
Vertical maneuver, suspension in air and unmanned flight, the words used to describe "UFOs" in science fiction films, will become true in reality. News from the School of Earth and Space Sciences of Beijing University says a virtual system of stratospheric solar aerospace flight system has been developed with Chinese independent IPR and is applying for a national patent.

The system looks like a pentacle and can maneuver automatically in the air.

According to Prof. Yan Lei with the School, the system is powered by solar cell. It adopts bearingless motor propeller to realize silent flight, vertical maneuver, long-time suspension in air. It can realize self-control and ground control. Capable of carry arms, it can attack and defend itself.

several problems i see with this:
1) virtual debut means it's not real yet. if it ever will be.
2) solar powered!! a lot of military operations happen at night, then this becomes useless.
3) propeller blades does not help the stealth aspect at all
4) the images give a false impression, propeller flight can only achieve a limited altitude because the atmosphere gets too thin, and propellers can't creat enough lift force.

i'll probably find more problems with it later.

your saying it can't STORE energy...?

I read about this many years ago, a UFO built in China, very small, only able to hold 2 people.

To you critics out there i say this, sure the Chinese flying saucer doesn't look like much now, but then again people said the same about the first airplanes, and i think we all know how that turned out;)

solar power is not the most efficient energy out there. unless it have another power source, just solar panels alone wont' be able to power the whole thing. remember it needs power for flying and all the other electronic equipment people on it. even if it is able to creat enough power from the solar cells to power it, there won't be much left to store. also how do you plan to use it during rain season? or when its snowing.. not much sun light gets through.

When the very first planes came out, combusion engines weren't that much advance either, most planes could barely lift their own weight, let alone that of pilots, weapons, cameras, passengers or whatever was placed on there.

But as time and technology evolved in a few decades planes became a crucial part of military and civilian life, the same will be true for these UFOs.

that is true, but remember this "UFO" is today. and today we don't have solar cells that can produce enough power to produce the neccesary power for this thing. the most efficient cell is only 30% efficient, and the most common are 5-15% efficient.

normally at high noon solar radiation have a power density of about 1 kW per meter squared. and that's under extremely good conditions. which is not a lot. just the rotors for the thing is giong to need more power than that.
