China Flanker Thread III (land based, exclude J-15)

Indians carry the massive Brahmos on their Su-30, So, Chinese flankers should be able to carry something similar. Sadly China doesn't have a missile equivalent to Brahmos in size and speed. Maybe an Air launched YJ-18 could be equivalent.
really China doesn't have a missile equivalent to Brahmo air launched? .. have you heard YJ-12, CJ-100, YJ-21, etc

Apart from JH-7A and J-16 which can carry 1-2 YJ-12s. H-6K can carry 6 YJ-12s. YJ-12 is superior to Brahmo, let alone CJ-100 or YJ-21

Only limited modified SU-30MKI can carry Brahmo and only single Brahmo

Yj-12 is too thick, unlike Brahmos which is like a long tube and can be put under the belly of a fighter.

for your info, which one is thicker? YJ-12 is far superior and we haven't talked about YJ-21 and CJ-100 :p ;)
and unlike Brahmo which is basically Russian and some critical components still come from Russia. Chinese missiles are all indigenous

Well, J-16D program itself likely has different interior layout to deal with increased cooling and power generation demand + having just additional systems that needed to be fit in there to carry out all the EW effort that it would need to do. A normal Y-9 based EW aircraft doesn't have much concerns about system & computing sizes, since its so large.

But to fit that in the interior of J-16D and keeping the antennas far enough to not have interference is a challenge. It probably took quite a bit of miniaturization effort to get all of that fit into this platform.

So, as we move forward, if you want to have say 5x power running through internally in the same interior space, there is actually quite a lot of work involved.

I can tell you having been working on a project recently that required putting electronic board inside of something, the number 1 concern we had was heat dissipation. And then after that is how big the battery size needs to be.

With all of China’s advancements with next gen T/R modules in radar tech, it means that raw boosting power output is not the only upgrade path open to China for achieving significant performance gains.

As others have already pointed out, Ram Air turbines are obvious solutions to power generation bottlenecks, and the lack of such on PLAAF EW pods thus far would suggest that power generation isn’t really an issue.

I wouldn't say CJ-100 or YJ-21 is equivalent and comparable Brahmos, but yes YJ-12 is. The other missile I would say is the export CX-1 missile but that's basically it. The H-6 also cannot carry six YJ-12s but rather only four.
