Wasn't Adm. Harry Harris super gungho about war with China when he was the CO of USINDOPACOM? One'd have thought the USN should be quite eager beaver about this...
can you explain this i have not enough english comprehension to understand all this slang. Thanks

I heard back in the 2016 stand off at SCS the world came this close to WW3 when Harris told his captains that they may fire upon PLAN if necessary. at least one captain thought he better double check this and phoned up the chain of command all the way to White House and was told to stand down. At the same time PLAN revealed a photo of H-6K patrolling near the location of the US carriers and so the CSGs pulled back and Harris was recalled and demoted to desk job and became US Ambassador to South Korea.

During that incident PLAN concentrated the key elements of all three fleets (over 100 warships) into SCS, commanded by four admirals in person. PLARF had DF-21D deployed into forward launch positions and TELs erected ready to launch at a moment's notice. It was that tense.

Actually, now that I think about it, DF-26 and DF-21D missiles are launched by units in the field. They attach wires and gadgets to the TEL and do a launch sequence (complete with countdown). So those targeted American sailors can take some solace that the launch process was somewhat action-y.

Wait, are we talking about the same Harry 'r/hapas' 'why don't i wear an imperial japanese 30s style moustache in Korea' Harris?

It's like his japanese ancestors in his blood are screaming at him to start a war between the americans and Chinese.
But
Was this before or after trump was elected? Kudos to trump if he actually pulled the world back from ww3 though it's not saying much that he allowed instigators of ww3 to be promoted to SECSTATE.

This is just amazing picture carrier on the rail! I wonder what kind of comment all the yahoo will say "It is fixed target" now that it clearly show the target practice is on the move

The images captured by Colorado-based satellite imagery company Maxar Technologies dated Sunday show the outlines of a U.S. aircraft carrier and at least one destroyer sitting on a railway track.

Maxar identified the location as Ruoqiang, a Taklamakan Desert county in the northwestern Xinjiang region.

Apparently the model for this was displayed at Zhuhai but no one paid any attention to it.

One downside to this approach is that the tracks are fixed and there is a limited degree of evasive maneuvers the targets could perform. I wonder if there is a quick and dirty fix for this.

Well you can make a curve track and using track switch you can change direction just as real train do

Interesting that in Zhuhai Air Show they labelled it as 陆上体系化综合电子蓝军系统Land based Systematized Integrated Electronic Blue Army System. The "Blue Army" part give a hint that this land mobile simulated aircraf carrier may be used for training rather than just purely as a simulated target for testing of anti-ship ballistic missiles.

My wild wild guess is that the "aircraft carrier" may possess simulated defense against income missile attacks in a Red Army vs Blue Army exercises.

I'm surprised they used rails. I would recommend having the carrier made of light balsa wood or something (but not so light that it would act like a kite when there's wind) and strap it onto 4 old trucks underneath at the edges. Some robotic programming would be needed to make them turn in unison with a single controller but what do I know?

Yes, I agree this is a training ground with a simulated mobile aircraft carrier and battle group.

If they just wanted simulated targets, you can just programme incoming missiles with coordinates which are deliberately wrong. That simulates the effect of a moving ship target.
