Guys..If someone gave you a budget of $30,000 USD CASH what sort of auto would you purchase?? a practical auto in other words..

Popeye would buy an Toyota FJ Cruiser or a Subaru Outback. I sure could use all wheel drive in much of the winter where as I live in Iowa.

The concept car looks nice. China should make more such cars. You know Chinese cars industries have been compared to Chinese football for the past few years.

I really like to Chinese GM designs AssassinsMace. I just hope GM can stay together in some form to get those cars in production in the PRC or US.

I've been arguing about this on another forum. It looks like a lot of people, Americans, are willing to let GM go for principle. My point on the other hand, is that GM is too big to fail, and it would change the American economic landscape forever. Not to mention this will also spread to defense contracts as well.

The FJ was one thing I seriously shopped about. I thought it had the potential of being a future classic. I still remember riding and even driving on the original Land Cruisers. Those things I miss. Anyway, my family thinks the visibility is not very good in some aspects, though it looked fine by me. The way it opens and closes does not seem convenient, as you have to open the front door to open the rear door. There is a latch on top of the door sill that you have to be careful not to bump your head when you go in to ride on the rear seat.

I might lean more on the Subaru, as it is a true car, more convenient to go around. Plus it gets better mileage.

Aww….. Bad move to sell disrespect the Camry >:-(

Toyota’s Corporate look? Eww…..I much prefer mid grille badge looks over top grille badges…..

Blade? Isnt it the new Matrix?
But yea, thank goodness there is no Central clutter!

But how did the Prius and Fit did seating wise? The SF car show isn’t really known for anything but the basics, and of all the cars I put myself, Hyundai, even in the Accent, would fit you in very very well. The seats were comfortable and supportive. Definitely road-trip-able for all Hyundais.

Is the new rule the reason diesel cost so much more? My mom had a coworker who bought a truck just because it used diesel which was cheaper.

OMG, tell me the Flat Mobile isn’t coming to the Bay Area!!! First Bicycles on the road and now this?

Yea, a lot of people had hatchbacks, especially the SongHua Jiang or Five-Rhombus Brands, but for brands w/ an International name, sedans rule, and while the Hatchback is popular, I haven’t seen the Fit Hatchback.

In Hong Kong, people drive ugly vans, ugly sedans, (mostly) ugly hatchbacks, and broken Ambulances. (The Ambulances of Hong Kong are mostly 10 year old Benz (OK, so Daimler Chrysler was the thing, but still, what the heck are those maintenance crews doing?????)) A car from 1998 is not an old car, and those ambulances should not be breaking down on the way to Wales or leave metal strips on Texaco Rd while trying to take a patient to Queen Elizabeth on a leaking tank of O2. Something needs a visit to Margarent…..
Seriously, the best rides in Hong Kong are the Double Deckers. The only thing prettier are the 97-01 Camries (Yes, I fell in love w/ Camry in HK…) and if lucky, an R32.

Microvans….. why don’t we ever see mid engined vehicles in America? All the Jinbeis and HiAces could teach GM and Ford a lesson, hehe.

30000….that’s a lot of choices, pretty anything except for high end luxury brands. (For those of you outside the US, $30000 in US terms mean any vehicles that’s not a Benz, Audi, BMW, Lexus, and so forth.)

If I could, I’d definitely buy a Camry XLE and then get a new Civic. :D

(Are we including tax?)
Well, for 30000, my list will include the
Rav4 V6 4WD
Jettawagen-Diesel
Malibu
GM Traverse/Outlook
Honda Accord (Given that I already had the Camry when I have the $30000)
Subaru Outback (Just enough to get the Limited)
Passat Wagon

Crobato I agree with you 100% about the US auto industry.

If I could, I’d definitely buy a Camry XLE and then get a new Civic.

Two of my sons drive hondas. One has that gay looking 2008 Fit and the other a 4 door 2007 Civic.

What Crobato & his family says about the FJ is so true. I dislike the rear visibility. And the rear doors really suck as far as entry and exit. But I like the looks, 4x drive & the Toyota quality. The gas mileage needs improvement.

The Subaru is really my first choice. Great reliable vehicle. Second in my opinion in quality only to Toyota.

LOL on your description. Yeah, new Fit and Fit sedan looks way better than the ratface. How was the quality/reliability of the Honda?

On the bailout issue:
I think most Americans and most of us on this board would think that American brand cars suck. What do you think is going to happen? Seems like too much concepts but none ever get on the ground. GM's cars are said to be getting better inside but still not one of the three have enough fuel efficient vehicles that's also attractive, and let me emphasize the fuel economy, even though the oil bubble has popped.

And corporation wise, the big three needs to restructure, meaning that people will probably be laid off from Detroit anyway. How can this be done with minimal damage? Would it be a good idea to have a volunteer-to-go program where people who volunteer to leave the factory are given an extra amount of money?

Actually, for everyone, is there an American car that you would buy?

I'd buy one if I was assured they will remain in business. I'd buy one of those new Chevy Malibu..Nice ride! I also like the Ford Escape 4X4.

By the way the reason I like 4X4s is because I live in a harsh climate. Lot's of snow. Lots!!!!
