"Since Brexit, you're no longer allowed to take certain foods to Europe like meats, fruits, vegetables, fishes, those kinds of stuff," the border guard explains to the lorry driver in the Dutch report.

I've just watched a video on this subject which was quite revealing to me.

Basically, people like Merkel are not against banning Trump and silencing him per say, since most world leaders can't stand Trump. However what troubles her and others like her is that this decision and the power to implement it did not come from governments, but rather from internally within tech companies, based on their own understanding of law and social norms. Tech companies can decide on their own what's normal and what's abnormal behaviour and unilaterally make anyone an un-person online.

Utilised as a weapon this gives tech companies a huge amount of unchecked political power. Today they are using that power to attack Trump, tomorrow they could use that same power to attack another country if they don't agree with its policy.

In other words, Merkels and co fear what China is experiencing every day in the media, they fear the same could happen to their governments. This attack on Trump has opened their eyes to it.
