WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (Reuters) - The White House called on China to condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine on Sunday as Moscow's onslaught against its neighbor continued and Russian President Vladimir Putin put nuclear forces on high alert.

China has implemented some sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies against Russia over the invasion and spoke in favor of Ukrainian sovereignty last week, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in an interview with MSNBC.

Stay ahead of the market
However, she made clear Beijing should do more.

"This is not a time to stand on the sidelines. This is a time to be vocal and condemn the actions of President Putin and Russia invading a sovereign country," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in an interview with MSNBC.

She said U.S. President Joe Biden has not spoken with Chinese leader Xi Jinping recently and did not rule out a call in the future.

"But there's also important steps for the Chinese leadership to look at themselves and really assess where they want to stand as the history books are written," Psaki said.

Biden himself took only a veiled swipe at China last week after Beijing rejected calling Moscow's move an invasion and urged all sides to exercise restraint.

"Putin will be a pariah on the international stage. Any nation that countenances Russia's naked aggression against Ukraine will be stained by association," Biden said without naming China.

Psaki's comments on Sunday were more pointed, coming hours after Putin ordered his military command to put Russia's nuclear deterrent on high alert in the face of a huge Western response to his war on Ukraine.

China is Russia's biggest trade partner for both exports and imports, buying a third of Russia's crude oil exports in 2020 and supplying it with manufactured products from cell phones and computers to toys and clothing.

The United States, Britain, Japan, Canada, Australia and the EU unveiled more sanctions on Moscow on top of penalties last week, including a move by Germany to halt an $11 billion gas pipeline from Russia.

The one sentence that stood out is this:
China has implemented some sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies against Russia over the invasion and spoke in favor of Ukrainian sovereignty last week

Are they referring to only the banks that no longer offer US-dollar denominated letters of credit or is there something else going on that we don't know? I definitely do know that if the Chinese decided to backstab Russia, the Western msm would report it all over the place. So if it's the former, they really are grasping straws and desperate.

I think they're grasping at straws and making a mountain out of a molehill.

Its their MO: Underemphasize things against them ("Oh, I just killed a million of your civilians? Its no big deal, you big crybaby") and overemphasize things for them ("One of our soldiers broke a toenail? This is literally a tragedy, the whole world stands with us as we denounce this heinous act")

Russia will not become a junior partner to China even if Russia offered, China would not accept. Trying to triple the size of the Chinese polity and expanding its borders across two continents is not something anybody in China's government would ever do. We all saw what happened to the Mongolians the last time they tried this. Look at them now.

China will not come out and say “hey Russia you be junior partner”. It isn’t something you assign like student government positions. It is reflected in economic and political reality, which China and Russia have no control over.

Scroll through this organized thread and see what the most liberal people in the West are saying now..

These are the most left-wing people in the West lmao... shows what they feel when shit hits the fan.

So uhhh yeaaaa... I think it's time for the non-White world to just cut off all relations, trade, investment, with the White world and start to unite with China as the leader of this coalition. 90% of the worlds population, 95% of its natural resources, vast majority of its minerals, even now majority of Worlds GDP (and increasing).

What else is needed? Just high-tech, which China will be able to support for all the 7 billion of 8 billion non-Whites in about 15 years time.

It's time.

The problem is that many "democratic" Eastern European governments are extremely racist, especially against Russians but also against non-whites. They immediately voted for far right the minute they gained independence from USSR. Just read their contempt for China, just see how Lithuania behaves. Just see them bar Iraqi and Syrian refugees and stopping Indian or African students at the border while letting Ukrainians through.
Yes you are right. well from my experience working with eastern european they are racist all right specially the older guy . I rather work with western european than eastern one
