The slow motion disintegration of Syria continues. I predict that the Assad regime will not survive. From what I've read elsewhere, the death toll of 73 referenced in that article is much too low and that it's actually above 100

Assad will not go down.
No one is willing to touch it.

It's true that no outside power is willing to really give him "the boot". But no one will try to save him either. Even without outside help, I think he'll go down. The Syrian Army is already fracturing.

I would like to see how Kadeer would try to spin herself out of this one.
Indiscriminate killing of this sort is done only by psychopaths or trained warriors. The fact that we have three incidents of this sort in quick succession tells me it is the latter. So yes, it is ETIM or some such group, and yes, Kadeer is the "go-to" person for the Western news sources who is there to spin it as an "outpouring of anger", and opposition to "Chinese rule".

The question is, what is the strategy here? What is the aim of these people? "Independence"? "Revolution"? Hell no! They couldn't care less what their fellow citizens feel. Their actions, in their form and style, are totally APOLITICAL, because they do not seek to rally anyone through them. More likely, fellow Uighurs will be disgusted by these actions, and will sympathize with the obviously innocent victims, regardless of how oppressive they find their conditions or "Chinese rule".

Rather, as was the case two years ago, they are trying to foment hatred and suspicion of Uighurs among the Han population. And they are trying to bring on the "crackdown" Kadeer says she "fears".

It is for this reason that I think this stuff is foreign inspired, foreign organized and foreign funded: it serves the interests of NOBODY in China in or out of Xinjiang.

Of course, I am against any notion of "independence" for Xinjiang, but if I was for it I would really hate Kadeer and her cronies even more, for the damage they do to such a cause.

Funded by You-Know-Who and serves its interest quite well.

Ironically, the funds may be from the money borrowed from China.

US economic news

For the first time in 70 years the US credit rating has been downgraded.Standard and Poor's has announced a drop from AAA to AA+,a 1 point drop.

The United States lost its top-notch AAA credit rating from Standard & Poor's on Friday, in a dramatic reversal of fortune for the world's largest economy.

S&P cut the long-term U.S. credit rating by one notch to AA-plus on concerns about growing budget deficits.
U.S. Treasuries, once undisputedly seen as the safest investment in the world, are now rated lower than bonds issued by countries such as the UK, Germany, France or Canada.

The outlook on the new U.S. credit rating is negative, S&P said in a statement, a sign that another downgrade is possible in the next 12 to 18 months.

London's Burning !
There is serious social unrest on the streets of London tonight as fires burn, shops looted and police cars trashed. So far most or the disturbances are in the north of the city in the Tottenham area but some unconfirmed reports suggest it is spreading to other areas. This is thought to have been triggered by dissatisfaction from the public following an earlier incident where a young father 'Mark Duggan' was shot and killed by the police.

Talk about unrest and police brutality. Ironic the very media outlet which always accuse others of "brutality", is facing one outside their window. Let's see IF BBC use these words for their articles on their OWN government tomorrow.

From what little I know, this riot comes from some "minor ethnics discontent of the society", ALSO. (certain group of people getting "pulled over" by law and order more often than others, and they had it enough this time?)

Not to add salt to the wond, it's just, "please, lords of medias, every society got these kind of issues. be nicer next time when you report these same stuff."

While I obviously do not condone the riots, the parallels to what the west has been calling for in china is rather interesting (jasmine revolution?)

From Iran:
ISNA - Tehran
Service: Foreign Policy

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran called for London Police to exercise self-restraint in dealing with protesters in Tottenham, north of London.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast referred to Saturday night massive protests in Tottenham which came following murder of a young black man by Scotland Yard Police and called for the UK government to avoid any police's harsh treatment with protesters.

He stressed return of peace and calm to London through talks and examining demands of the demonstrators.

Mehmanparast expressed hope independent human rights bodies would take measures to make clear facts behind murder of the black man soon.

And if you're feeling even more cynical...

Anyone have an idea of how far these riots could actually spreaad?
