RAN is pretty much spending billions on the navy

Everything is new !
Australian military ship building industry is heavily subsidise by tax payers money, billions of dollars spend, yes, bang for the buck, don't think so. At $250000000.00 a boat, they better be good, the Armidale class is just too small to patrol the Southern Ocean.

I think the new HObarts are going to be excellent additions...I just wish there were more than three.

But with the modernized/upgraded FFGs, which I hope hey extend their service life, with those vessels, the Hopbarts, the new LPDs, the F-35s, the P-8s. probably the Tritons, and the new Subs, Australia will be able to add significantly to any military needs involving their security for a long time to come.

And also mainly replace one by one and even more old armament with a new type EW EA-18G ! only exception 3 Hobbart for 4 Perry but planned 9 future FFGs for replaced 8 ANZAC

But again an Army a bit small.

The Armidales are never tasked to patrol the Southern Ocean. And why would they be.

And who else is going to pay for Australia's defence? Private industry? Australia has a small population with lots of high end military goodies. You don't get to that point without Joe Citizen putting his hand in his pocket to help pay for it.

Yes Joe Citizen will pay, but Joe citizen want more bang for the buck and no more fiasco like the Sea Sprite programme and the current Hobsrt class destroyers where millions of dollars that could have went to more Super Hornets for example had been wasted. I may not be true blue like you but I have thrown everything behind this beloved country and diverstity of hour.
Like it or not i consider myself a Aussie and proud of it.

...and you have every right to voice your opinin and to expect the best for your tax daollars.

The Hobarts are expensive...but they are also going to be very capable and work very strongly with the US, Japan, and Korean allies and all of their AEGIS capabilities. In the end, they will be well worth it.

The small offshore patrol vessels are very worthwhile for Australia in providing presence and in getting those small island nations on board with Australia.

Now with F-35s, P-8s, MQ-4Cs, the new LPDs, the next gen FFGs, etc., etc. Australia is just making sure her defense needs are met for the long term...and that is important. It happens, in this day and age, to also be expensive.

All the best to ur good friends down under!
