@Deino what are the correct places on the forum to post analysis articles about:

1. Pakistan strategic/internal affairs
2. Pakistan military equipment such as JF-17
3. General military topics (radars, stealth, etc.).

Many thanks for your time.

I have a question. We have a granddaughter that is going to Romania this summer with her friends. I was surfing around time zone to check the time differences between here and there and discovered that China a country that is as wide as the USA has one time zone. ONE!!! To me this makes no sense. None at all. So.. why is this so? I patiently await an answer. Thank you!

Well... There is two answers and one truth not dissimilar to either answer (like with most things China). One answer is that when the communists took over they did it as a symbolic measure of national unity. The second answer is that trying to coordinate clocks and draw arbitrary time zone lines and keep things coordinated was too difficult (an accurate statement).

The one truth of it all is that there are two systems of time in China. The official Beijing time and the "whatever the locals think is the right time to do things time". This goes so far that some locales have their own set of clocks and times (especially in the far West).

Well, I would flip that and ask, why does it make sense to have 3 or 4 time zones in the same country? Why does it make sense to change the clock twice a year?

To put it into perspective, running on Beijing time means the sun sets at 10 pm in Xinjiang. What's the big deal about that? In Canada during summer, the sun sets at 9 pm with daylight savings time.

So the sun sets at 10 pm. In return, the entire country runs on the same time. You never need to wonder what time it is in some city or other. You don't have to adjust your watch when you travel within the country. China does not have DST either, so you never need to worry about getting up an hour late for work because you forgot the clock changed.

I love it when I travel to China or India for work. Both countries have one time zone. No need to readjust any watch (I am a purist for automatic/mechanic watches so no wearable tech for me) or worry about local time.

If you think about it with everyone being connected 24/7 and how fast information moving and our pace of life (we can get on a flight in the US and cross the Atlantic or Pacific in 7-12 hours) it doesn’t really matter if you have multiple time zones.

It makes it 100 time easier when I schedule meetings with folks in Chinese cities when I know they have one time zone versus here and dealing with the West coast folks.

Anybody hear about that story of the Indonesian teen found rescued at sea supposedly out there for 49 days. He said he survived drinking sea water filtered through his t-shirt. Sounds strange if it were that easy since desalinization plants are extremely expensive. Is that possible?

He looked pretty healthy for marooned at sea for 49 days. His floating fish trap appears adequate but filtering sea water using a t-shirt? I don't see how that is possible. Maybe there's an error in translation (i.e. 4 to 9 days).

I use to teach survival techniques..No way this happened. No way that water filtered through a T-shirt was drinkable. No way. Large quantities of salt water needs to be boiled to get enough to consume by collecting the condensation from boiling....dude's lying.Period.

That should be such a common knowledge thing for anyone who lives near saltwater that I don't think he would've lied about it, more likely someone else misreported it accidentally or deliberately i.e. filtering the water through his T-shirt was only one of several steps he took but they only reported that step.

On another note, could eating moist food like fresh fish help him last longer with less water?
