Those "Japanese" vtubers on youtube and/or bilibili, who can speak bits of chinese sometimes. It seems to me that most of them are straight up Chinese (pretending to be Japanese), or of Chinese descent in Japan.

I'm wondering does everyone share this view? Or are there actually people who believe that Japanese vtubers can speak a few words of Chinese with the right accent and lingo because they are learning Chinese?

I just got annoyed cause Bilibili front page always have those vtubers, and a lot of them speak Japanese??? I don't know where to ask this question cause I don't really watch vtubers.

I mean alot of aspacts of the japanese language are copied from China but yeah I see your point. All of the vtubers might be taiwanese or shanghainese or hong kongers.

Thanks for your informative answer. I recall reading something about hololive getting banned in China previously, I assume it's related to your story. I was just puzzled that it seems like the comments were all filled with people (pretending) the vtuber is somehow an authentic Japanese person or something? Then again, maybe these people are also playing along with their fantasies or something.
