Ask anything Thread

This thread is predominantly for new, inexperienced posters on SD. There will be one in each forum and the questions should relate to the overall topic of the forum in which it is located..

It is for true nubie or greenie questions that we do not want to clutter up our main threads with.

It is also for "off the wall," questions or suggestions, even from more experienced users on SD.

Our forum is very broad ranging and everyone cannot be experts on everything...so in one of the forums, if you have a legitimate question you have been afraid or embarrassed to ask...this is where you can do it.

As moderators see questions that may fit into these categories on other threads...they may well move them here to try and keep our more serious threads as professional as possible.

Be patient. Longer time members will watch these threads as will moderators...but it may take us a whole to get to some of these questions.

So...with that...carryon!

I found these rare and amazing photos showing Curtiss P-40 Warhawk on the deck or operating on aircraft carriers. There was a naval version of this fighter? To see the photos, visit the link below:

First of all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

A book I have written is about to be published and I would like to post a link about it.

Thus two questions: first of all is it permissible at all and if so which would be the appropriate thread?

Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your greeting and to you too,

The question is, what's the topic of your book? If it fit's to any of the threads, then it's fine - I myself have several such threads in the PLAAF section - ... so could you please explain?

Best

The topic is:

Interceptions of Lockheed U-2 Reconnaissance Aircraft over the USSR, Cuba and People’s Republic of China, 1959-1968

Hello, can anyone weigh in on a question I have regarding the transition period after the 87 Series uniforms for the PLA, PLAN and PLANAF were adopted with wear beginning, I believe, in October 1988. The 87 series featured shoulder board rank for the first time since the 1950s, arm of service collar badges and revised cap badges (adding the wreath below the circular). The 87 series also featured 4-button, open collar tunics/jackets for "summer" service dress wear, replacing the 5-button closed collar tunics (5-button closed collar tunics remained for winter wear until
Huh?
?).

My question is: Did the 87 uniform regs permit the wearing of closed collar tunics (series 1985) for summer service dress, with the new collar AoS devices on the closed collar (instead of the open collar lapels) and shoulderboard rank replacing the non-rank arm of service shoulderboards of the 85 series?

With the large number of closed-collar summer tunics presumably made in the 1985-1988 timeframe, it would have been a costly waste if these tunics were not allowed to phase out. If supported by the 87 regulations, what was the phase out period for these 85 service summer tunics?

"China invaded Vietnam in 1979 you clueless mook.
They got their asses kicked into next week."

Article: Anti-China Brainwashing Is the Fast-Track to War)

For the nth time I have again encountered a claim
that China got its ass kicked by Vietnam. It is only
here in sinodefence.com that I read that China did
not lose. If China really did not lose why does it
not set the record straight?

There's no point. They'll believe whatever they want to believe.
The USA even believes it won the Korean war.

At the end of the day, all the cope in the world doesn't change the fact that the war devastated Vietnam's industries (the majority was in the north) and forced them to overspend on their military. All which served to stagnant their real economy.
