Why there are both KJ-200 and KJ-500 ? They seems to be redundant, despite differences in approach they essentially fill the same role of AEW.

KJ-2000 could be viewed as "high end" system while KJ-500 seems to provide "lower cost" system for AEW solution, but i wonder what to make of KJ-200. Is it an "even lower cost" solution or something else.

It was introduced a bit earlier and therefore offered an interesting complement to the KJ-2000 … IMO they are today under conversion to the KJ-200B but no longer as pure a AEW but an ISR asset

The way I heard it, the disk shaped thing isn't actually filled with lighter than air gas but rather regular air. Lift is generated by the drone underneath tugging on the disk which act as an airfoil, it can then float around in stratosphere for month at a time.
Could be part of the 快云 (Fast Cloud) project as near-space loitering airship UAVs as part of CASIC's Five Clouds.

Hi there,

I am searching for a topic for a paper to write on and was interested in the design of these Balloon thingies.

I just wanted to ask, wasn't there also a scientific article on the UAV or Scientific news thread about a similiar balloon or did my memory trick me?

I've tried pinning down those two threads
via search but didn't yield results since I miss the key words which where in Hanzi which I can't remember.

Thanks in advance.

It was not this one but similiar if I remember correctly.

I know that China is building 100+ of new combat aircraft each year. When they induct these new planes, are they simply replacing older planes in the same brigade or are they also expanding the air force as well by not replacing all older brigades but also adding new brigades. What I mean to say is, Is China expanding its air force or naval air force size?

At the moment there is no increase in the number of brigades notable, quite to the contrary, some were even abolished in recent years.

There are talking since dec 2022 on Weibo about a new round of military reforms including the Navy Aviation transferring its land-based fighters to the Air Force, as well as the Army potentially disbanding group army level air-defense drigades to either transfer their HQ-16 to the Air Force or forming theather level air-defense unit with more integrated command with radar, SAM and fighter units.
There were also articles in Chinese talking about this, although they not usually considered as credible military information sources (so I won't post the link)

Do we have newer informations about this ? on the accuracy of the claims and how things are getting

I think in one of the flanker threads (15 or 11?) that there was some discusssions about transfers of fighter jets from PLANAF to PLAAF?

Anyone with an idea what's this? I have no clue at all. ... IMO most likely a late April fool's day joke!

note that C-130 (apparently from ROCAF, judging by the paint scheme) on the runway, this prank just gets better and better
