a fair and pretty accurate assessment of the PLA. US military experts in this video say that China's military equipment has caught up to their western counterparts. equipment include major surface combatants and SAM, Air to air missiles, and ballistic missiles.
Way too late to be anything meaningful especially given that in another 5-7 years we would be a whole different beast. By 2030 we should be at absolute parity with the US if not surprassing them in some fields.

Agreed, but China has been working on asymmetrical weaponry that some Americans do not seem to take enough notice.
that video just gave me a whole new perspective on the comparisons between Taiwan and China. I mean Taiwan is pretty complacent right now. they should be scared shitless. if war breaks out and the US doesn't come to its rescue, China will make short work of Taiwan. I'm talking at most a few months before Taiwan falls. the level of hardware on either side of the strait is not even close. I showed a Chinese exchange student a picture of the 055 destroyer, and she exclaimed that it was so modern looking. meanwhile Taiwan has some Kidd class destroyers from the 1980s. I don't think Taiwan realizes the seriousness of the situation. or maybe they are betting on the US coming to help them.

With the proliferation of hard kill APS on tanks and armored vehicles, would it be worth for the PLA to invest in a new and improved LOSAT like system which uses a kinetic kill missile, for anti-tank use? I'm unsure if a kinetic kill missile could be made light enough for infantry anti-tank uses but it would be very useful to put on light vehicles and helicopters.
