It is just a slap in the face of the government, which had just tried to scare those from transferring AI know how from China. And China does not seems to have teeth to enforce its jurisdiction outside its political borders. Capital flight, moving tech secrets, tech researchers out of the country in broad day light and the government always seems to be caught off guard and look reactive.

Another chinese traitor trying to do backdoor tech export. China should arrest this guy too.
Chen Tianqiao requested the Chinese team to go to Singapore in January, but the team leader refused and led a group of members to resign.

This is simply a consequence of the Manus controversy.

That being said, Chen Tianqiao's other AI project is still recruiting in both China and the US.

Perhaps it's about time to adhering to the rules and drawing clear lines. Data and services from China will remain in China, while those overseas will stay overseas.

Any company founded in China will forever be a Chinese company. No ifs or buts about it. Put sanctions on these traitors that any company they form overseas will be banned from doing business with Chinese companies and Chinese individuals. Apply secondary sanctions if needed. About time China stopped supplying the talent to feed American AI companies.
