There is a bigger issue for the US and they did it to themselves. Between the blocking of Anthropic access by non-US companies and persons and the constantly fluctuating pricing, tariffs, etc. nobody trusts the US now. The blocking of Anthropic finally got through the thick skulls of Europeans that they need their own AI, hyperscalers, office suites, etc, because the US is not a trustable partner.
The impact of this to the US will be bigger. US companies will lose customers for a very long time and whichever country, company provides intellectual and technological leadership and access to their tools (open source or otherwise) becomes the longterm partner. Anthropic is in panic mode right now because of this. And anyone else (e.g. Schmidt) with half a brain sees the handwriting on the wall.
