Yes, I agree with your assertion. I believe that software can never lead to AGI. I believe in Roger Penrose's theory that consciousness arises from collapsing quantum states inside the neural structure of the brain. This fits in with the Buddhist view that consciousness is a stream of discrete states. Thus I think that AGI can only be achieved using specialised hardware.

From what i remember if Penrose is right we would need like multiple orders of magnitude more compute to even rival a human brain/consciences.
