A question that has been annoying me for sometime:

Why don’t they store aircraft vertically in hangers? Like bats.

Used to be a thing in ww2 i think?

Well, basically propeller planes, nowadays planes are way way heavier so doing that wouldn't really be smart.

As even if you save space, the logistics, operation, design etc. Would all need to change, heck might even have to "nerf" the capabilities of the planes to have it be able to withstand being "hung".

Maybe they could be hung using the tail hook?

That's funny but when a big part of the airwings will be drones, maybe we will see some sort of stacking of smallers and attritables airframes.

In WWII they were dumping damaged airplanes off the deck and most of the airwing where going one way in large battle so space for repairs was not that usefull. They where stacking them the closer they where able to do multiple sorties with extreme lost possible.

Right now, with low number of big airplanes, they are meant to be recovered and maintained, you cannot stack them like that without any access for repair.

Spare aircrafts stacking in WWII:

Like I said, lighter propeller planes.

Current modern airplanes on aircraft carriers are much, much heavier as well as filled with way more eletronics etc.

Maybe, and I mean maybe we might see something like that again in the future, if some new innovations make it possible to more easily lift and store aircrafts hanged/stacked, without big penalties (such as having to reinforce the aircraft a lot to withstand forces/pressures or whatever)

Yeah clearly from a time of crude high attrition aircraft warfare... wanted to post it because having a picture to illustrate it is nice.
