Question..when will we see HMS Queen Elizabeth with a full complement of aircraft? Thanks!

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on the QE to depart with a full compliment of aircraft, maybe Obi-Wan would enlighten us to expectations? 24 aircraft on each carrier??? its capable of carrying more, but will they ever have enough to make that practical??

Great pictures by the way....

It's 12 F-35 for routine, 24 for Surge and max (in Operation) is 36. I precise that's for the F-35s. It is assumed that it will be complemented with helicopters of different roles.

IIRC the brit's are still debating wether they should get an another batch of F-35A or B, or simply more than the initial 48 aircrafts.

"Still, the delay creates a headache for the East Coast carrier fleet in terms of operational availability: IKE is in the yard, Bush is waiting to get into the yard after finishing a seven-month deployment in August 2017, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) is working up with its air wing for the first time since completing its mid-life Refueling and Complex Overhaul last year but will relocate to the West Coast – though the Navy has not said if the move will happen before its next deployment or upon return – USS George Washington (CVN-73) is currently in its RCOH, and new carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is conducting its post-shakedown availability at the Newport News Shipbuilding yard. That leaves just USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) on the East Coast, which is currently deployed to the North Atlantic. With IKE running so far behind schedule, it is unclear if Truman would have to conduct operational work during the “sustainment” phase of its Optimized Fleet Response Plan cycle – which includes maintenance, basic training, deployment and then sustainment, when the crew remains ready to surge naval presence around the world if called upon."

There is no official debate about what model F-35 to buy, it has been settled ages ago, we're buying the B. RAF Fanboys keep agitating for buying some 'A's, but reality quickly kicks in. The A does not have a refuelling probe (though Lockmart have said you can have it if you want it, so long as you pay for it!), so They would be incompatible with the RAF's Air Tanker Fleet. Adapting either the tankers or the Lightnings will cost money and the savings from buying As over Bs quickly evaporate. The B has double the range of the Harrier, and with IFR the range issue simply goes away. A homogenous fleet of Bs would give maximum flexibility, and being able to deploy at sea is a major selling point. In 1982 the RAF was equipped with a large number of Naval fighter and strike aircraft (Phantoms and Buccaneers) that sat impotently on the sidelines during the Falklands War. They would risk getting caught out again if they split the Lightning fleet between As and Bs.

Or maybe none, when you see the suggestion of the HCDC in one of its latest report.

that drastic changes to force structure and capability of the Armed Forces were being considered as options were drawn up by the MoD to meet the parameters of the NSCR. These options reportedly included:

reductions in the number of F-35 Joint Strike Fighters to be purchased
