“We as a Navy and as a Department of Defense have a lot to be held accountable for with respect to the Ford," Modly said. “Certain decisions that were made to put in all those new technologies at once on a new platform and I think we’re accepting responsibility for it.”

makes me wonder what exactly "accepting responsibility" means (I'm guessing it means surviving until a promotion for outstanding achievements in game-changing program)

No, it means they are "paying a price" by having to work their asses off, trying to "get their shit together", and its a high price, not only hard work, but folks who don't have a clue passing judgement on their work, and their boat! not to mention their own character.....

Yep, trying to make a cultural and technological leap is never easy, but its always gonna draw a crowd of "internet experts" know it alls, and in general "nervous nellies"....

Since it takes 5, 10, 15, 20 years to roll out a new boat these days, you try to "pack it" with all the foreseeable answers, to all the foreseeable threats....

If you don't, 2 years down the road, those same all wise, all knowing "internet experts" will ask why you didn't anticipate this threat, or that threat???

so you might as well go for broke, all you're going to catch is "shit" anyway, go for it, but you will have to deal with the reality of bringing a technological marvel into the "real world", and you will have to pay for it... so what???

so basically you're saying "accepting responsibility" by officials means people will poke at those officials, and that's it -- people would poke at them anyway LOL

well no wonder the Fed is 22t+ in debt

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Program Executive Office (PEO) Aircraft Carriers announced the successful completion of the Post-Shakedown Availability/Selected Restricted Availability (PSA/SRA) for USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) Oct. 30 as the ship returned to its home port at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.

PSA completion marks a significant shipbuilding milestone for USS Gerald R. Ford, the first ship in a next-generation class that will serve for 50 years as the centerpiece of national defense in an increasingly complex security environment.

"This is a warship like none other, and the process of returning her to fleet service reflects the great technical skill, professionalism and tenacity of the government/industry team," said Rear Adm. James Downey, program executive officer for Aircraft Carriers. "USS Gerald R. Ford is the most technologically advanced, most lethal combat platform in the world. Everyone, from the highest levels of government to the crew working the deck plates, is laser focused on this aircraft carrier being ready to enter fleet service."

"People came up to me and said, 'Are you out of your mind, secretary? Not refueling the Truman ... that's just insane,'" Spencer said.

But if the sea services are going to be ready for the next fight, he said they must be allowed to ditch inefficient equipment. The

"It's an efficiency game changer," Spencer said. "So let me abandon an older vessel and move to the newer fleet."

if I were the President, I'd now step in and thank that SECNAV for his service
