Aircraft Carriers III

Yes, but considering that that carrier should make a port visit in Croatian port of Split, and they cancelled that in a last moment, then maybe it's really sent to Gulf ASAP?

Two USN carriers were performing dual operations in Mediterranean last week

John C Stennis is now in the Atlantic while Abraham Lincoln is on it’s way to Persian gulf

I don’t think this is news as it was always due to sail to Persian gulf it left Norfolk at start of April for deployment

Add to that normally it’s the Pentagon that announces the carrier deployment this time they wanted the White House to announce it

So my conclusion is this is not a out of the ordinary deployment but rather a redeployment rescheduled by a few days using that as a pretext to announce it’s going for Iran at a time when intelligence agency’s claim they think Iran could be planning something and this is to deter them

Right place right time kind of thing

"The 13th MEU experimented with the F-35B as both a deck-launched interceptor and in anti-air and anti-surface roles."

I'm wondering what those F-35Bs used in "anti-surface role"

A Marine with the F-35B Lightning II detachment of Medium Marine Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced) helps load an inert Guided Bomb Unit-12 Paveway onto an F-35B fighter atop the flight deck aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), Philippine Sea, Jan. 26, 2019. Naval aviators with the detachment fly the F-35B, which can carry an array of weapons, including guided bombs and missiles – the multirole fighter is the Marine Corps’ newest, most advanced attack jet and is purpose-built for Navy-Marine Corps amphibious operations. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU partnering with the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region. The Defense Secretary was given last-minute a heads-up about the White House's demand to keep the USS Harry S. Truman afloat, and the Navy scrambled Wednesday morning to change its message to Congress.

for me, one of the most interesting moments of six years of watching the USN has just occurred:
"In his original written remarks — struck at the last minute — Richardson was to say the Navy is “making tough calls about the capabilities we need to tackle future challenges,” and the decision to cancel the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) of the ship would help fund a slew of other modernization programs."

huh?

Also the JDAM..very "cheap" and accurate.
Block F is basically limited to JDAM for ground attack. The envelope will open up with Block 4 brining with it NSM and Storm Breaker although that would be sometime in 2022 for the latter. Weapons integration with the JSF is rather painfully slow in my view. Faster weapon integration is also one of the reason not to adopt the F-35s as a substitute for the replacement of the aging F-15Cs.
