Why Is An F-35 Sitting On The Deck Of HMS Queen Elizabeth?

One of the UK's F-35 aircraft has travelled back home on HMS Queen Elizabeth after developing a fault in the US.

A Royal Navy spokesperson said that after

, one of the Lightning jets will need to undergo repair and maintenance work.

"Following completion of successful flying trials in the US, one F-35 Lightning remained embarked on HMS Queen Elizabeth in order for repair and maintenance work to be completed," the spokesperson said.

The F-35 was unable to fly home from the US because of the technical problem.

The aircraft is expected to take off from the aircraft carrier in Portsmouth and fly back to RAF Marham once the fault has been addressed.

In a tweet, HM Naval Base Portsmouth dismissed rumours suggesting the F-35 could take off on Monday.

when I read the above story, I had been unaware of the new USN PR campaign to make the Ford great again, LOL!

"USNI News was part of the first group of reporters underway aboard Ford and given status updates on the major pieces of technology that the service says will make the ship the most deadly carrier in history."

if in the future an engines for example takes in a flock of birds or is roughed up by shrapnels and if they then replace it on board after an Osprey delivers stuff, instead of just leaving the aircraft in a hangar, I'll be proven wrong
LOL

Jura.the US Navy is really pushing this aircraft to the point of exaggerating... In my opinion....like this from your link;

The service’s contention has been that the C-2A cannot carry the Joint Strike Fighter’s F135 turbofan engine, a critical issue for sustained operations.

Things must have changed. I never ever once in the seven deployments I made ever saw an extra aircraft engine transported in a COD. Never. Not once.

... Jura Carriers have hanger decks not to sideline fighters and store them but to repair and maintain them If you sideline a Fighter you sideline that pilot and reduce the mission capacity of the Air wing. The ALIS is to tell the maintainers what is happening in the fighter, it's a Check engine soon light that is supposed to tell you exactly what is wrong. The Air wing maintainers then come in and do the repairs.

now one of the nice things about the F35 Engine so far is it's modular nature. If the engine does have a issue then you can replace the trouble spot but keep what works rather then having to replace the whole thing. Problem with the fans, call in a replacement Fan module.

The carrier Prince of Wales was commissioned a couple of days ago. Seems to be a rather non event considering the lack of publicity.

Anyway congratulations on a fine ship and to all those who made it happen.
