Aircraft Carriers III

interesting to see how these days even a 'feel good' article (kidding with Deployable Lasers. etc.)

is wary; just

Conclusion
The capabilities of the next generation CSG will be essential in the event of peer conflict. It will provide robust maritime air power and contribute to the IADS network through state-of-the-art airborne early warning28, 5th and 4th+ generation fighters, and missile defence ships operating advanced versions of the Aegis Weapons System. While air threats to the CSG are becoming increasingly capable, if the Alliance invests in the right defensive (and offensive) capabilities, the CSG will survive against a peer adversary, and remain a viable, valuable asset in the Joint Force Commander’s portfolio.

An article stating the bleeding obvious here, but remember the delays are not due to problems with the ships or aircraft, but caused entirely by the parsimonious attitude of the Government:

the QE program has been pathetically slow,

("Should all go according to plans, an initial carrier strike operating capability is expected to be reached by December 2020, while a Carrier Enabled Power Projection (CEPP) capability is expected by 2026 (full CEPP meaning having both carriers in operation with F35B jets and the Crowsnest radar).

)

taking several WW2-durations from a contract announcement to the point when they might be able to hit something (if weaponry is purchased for the aircraft),

so I wouldn't be surprised if the Admiralty were asked, 'You could do like two decades without carriers, so how much do you need them except for sailing to New York to brag'

?!

I think more interesting is why the Wasp leaves that quickly (I mean the real, yet unknown, reason)

:

“[Wasp] is coming around because of maintenance – her time in [the Forward-Deployed Naval Force] is over out in Japan, America‘s going out there. She’s coming back because of maintenance and dock loading and stuff like that,” Vice Adm. Richard Brown, commander of Naval Surface Forces and Naval Surface Force Pacific, said ...
