and Carrier Lincoln Redelivers to the Navy After 4-Year Refueling and Complex Overhaul
Newport News Industries redelivered nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) to the U.S. Navy after completing the carrier’s four-year mid-life Refueling and Complex Overhaul.

The aircraft carrier was redelivered on May 12, after four days of sea trials that tested the ship’s systems and ensured the carrier was ready to resume training and deploying. The Nimitz-class carriers are built to last 50 years, with an RCOH halfway through its service life to refuel the nuclear power plant, replace the flight deck and modernize computer and warfighting systems throughout the ship. Lincoln’s midlife RCOH is the fifth one, all completed by Newport News Shipbuilding on Nimitz-class carriers – with the nuclear-powered ex-USS Enterprise (CVN-65) having gone through several smaller RCOHs during its service life.

“The successful completion of sea trials and redelivery of the ship to the Navy is the culmination of over 48 months of teamwork between Newport News shipbuilders, the CVN-72 crew, our government partners and all of our suppliers,” Chris Miner, Newport News’ vice president of in-service aircraft carrier programs, said in a company news release.
“The completion of the refueling and complex overhaul returns a fully recapitalized ship to the fleet, ready to support any mission and serve our nation for another 25 years.”

Lincoln’s RCOH began in March 2013 and has included more than 2.5 million man-hours of labor, according to a Navy news release. Upgrades include repairing, replacing and modernizing tanks, the hull, shafting, propellers, rudders, piping, ventilation, electrical, combat and aviation support systems. Workers also defueled and then refueled the ship’s two nuclear reactors. At the height of the work, 4,000 shipbuilders at Newport News were assigned to the Lincoln RCOH.

“Every Sailor, shipyard worker and contractor involved with RCOH and redelivery should be standing tall as we bring this mighty warship back home to Norfolk and put her back into service for the U.S. Navy,” Capt. Ronald Ravelo, Lincoln’s commanding officer, said in the Navy news release.
“Getting Lincoln back into the fight was truly an all-hands effort, and I could not be more proud of the crew who helped make that happen.”

For the past year, the Navy was effectively fighting with eight carriers in the fleet. USS George Washington (CVN-73), which will begin its RCOH this summer, has been sidelined since December 2015, awaiting its turn at Newport News.

With Lincoln’s return to the fleet, the Navy will have nine in its training and deployment rotation. GW would return to the fleet in 2021, and the newest aircraft carrier, Gerald R. Ford, will deliver to the Navy soon and commission later this year but likely won’t go on its

Ok I've checked several legitimate news sources and could not find this story. I also checked US DoD, COM7thFLT, USNI, & Navy Times. We shall see what shakes out later today or tomorrow.

It will be interesting if the story is "Fake News" and the Pacific Stars and Stripes reported this . the PS&S has been at odds with the USN for about 10 years. I can't remember why.

PS... I even checked facebook..nuthin'!!.

So the initial report was exaggerated or simply fake news as reported by RT. And the Pacific Stars and Stripes bought into the tale.

Oh by the way the Pacific Stars and Stripes beef with the USN dates back to 2002 or so. There was some issue with USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63).

and here's NavalToday story:
USS Ronald Reagan gets underway after short delay
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

The U.S. Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), set sail from the naval base Yokosuka, Japan, on Tuesday, starting her 2017 Asia patrol.

The carrier was initially scheduled to deploy yesterday, May 15, but was delayed after a material issue that needed repair was discovered. The navy did not specify what the issue was.

USS Ronald Reagan deployed with some 5,000 sailors for what is usually a 6-9 month deployment. During her deployment, the carrier will be accompanied by destroyers, cruisers and nuclear-powered submarines.

As reported

, the Ronald Reagan carrier strike group starts the Asia-Pacific region patrol in a period of mounting tensions between the U.S. and North Korea, caused by the Pyongyang regime’s repeated missile tests.

North Korea has stepped up missile tests recently and has made several launches since U.S. president Donald Trump took office in January. The latest missile test took place on Sunday with a new type of rocket capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

The U.S. Navy already has one aircraft carrier operating in waters of the Korean Peninsula. The San Diego-based USS Carl Vinson was ordered to change course in April and sail north instead of visiting Australia for exercises, following North Korean tests.

Trump to Coast Guard: I Saved You Money on F-35, Aircraft Carrier
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

“I won’t talk about how much I saved you on the F-35 fighter jet. I won’t even talk about it. Or how much we’re about to save you on the Gerald Ford, the aircraft carrier,” Trump said in his remarks at the academy around noon on Wednesday.

“That had a little bit of an overrun problem before I got here, you know that. Still going to have an overrun problem. We came in when it was finished. But we’re going to save some good money,” he said. “And when we build the new aircraft carriers they’re going to be built under budget and ahead of schedule, just remember that. That will allow us to build more.”

does AAG work? anyway
Navy Orders Advanced Arresting Gear for Next USS Enterprise
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

The Navy awarded a contract to General Atomics for a set of Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) for the third Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier.

Naval Air Systems Command awarded a $195.2 million contract option to General Atomics “for the manufacture, assembly, inspection, test and checkout of the advanced arresting gear for the CVN 80 shipset, including installation and checkout spares, repairs, technical data, and drawing changes,” the Defense Department said in a May 18 contract announcement.

CVN 80, the future USS Enterprise, will become the third ship to use the new arresting gear, which allows tailhook-equipped aircraft to land on aircraft carriers.

The AAG is installed on CVN 78, Gerald R. Ford, which is scheduled for acceptance trials later this month and commissioning this summer. The AAG has been tested extensively at a shore site in Lakehurst, N.J., but has not yet arrested an aircraft at sea.

The AAG also will be installed on CVN 79, the future USS John F. Kennedy. Development delays and cost increases led the Navy to consider reverting to the current Mark 7 arresting gear, but the service decided to stick with the AAG.

The work under this contract option is expected to be completed in September 2027.
