were they checking lights switched on and off maybe??

LOL some of you know how critical I can be, so it's good to hear Official: USS Ford expected to start sea trials this week
A top U.S. Navy officer says the USS Gerald R. Ford is expected to head out soon for its first round of sea trials.

Vice Adm. Tom Moore told reporters Monday he thinks the ship will head out "in the near term and probably this week." Moore heads the Naval Sea Systems Command and spoke at the Sea-Air-Space exposition at National Harbor in Maryland.

Another Navy officer said at the exposition that the sea trials are "imminent."

The $12.9 billion Ford is the first in the U.S. Navy's new carrier class. It is being built at a Newport News shipyard and is expected to be commissioned this year after cost overruns and delays.

Sea trials had initially been scheduled to start last month.

Yes it is that simple. There are dozens of exterior lights on a CVN.

Why the chain is all-black without markers?

Ok you mean the anchor chain. Usally the anchor chain was painted grey in my day. Why it is black I do not know. And the chain is marked. You just can't see it. Trust me if they weighed(let go) the anchor. You would see the marks. Normally they are painted white & red. That chain is very long. Most of it is stored below decks.

I noticed on this video that the anchor chain is pained several colors more than likely denoting how much lenght is left when releasing the anchor. I was not a member of the deck force so I'm not 100% sure of the colors. Take a look.

It might be the fashion. I was surprised by the lack of white markings on the chain which show the place where it could be broken in case of emergency leaving an anchor in the water. But I bet it's onle the work of camera angle in this case as it's impossible to do that any other way.
