Severomorsk close Murmansk is north of the Arctic Circle then more special...

Difficult to say exist others areas close Norfolk, Shangai etc... but very possible during Cold War it is the more big concentration of military bases, 6 Subs bases ! 4/5 ships, airbases, many SAM units etc !!!

The F-18E at full load is around 10 tonnes while the MLX-01 was around 22~24 tonnes Japan has enough test data and electrical equipment to fit one right now.
F-18E do 30t max.

But some news for a successor of Soryu some sayy the classe would have 12 units in this case the last delivered for 2021/22 and i have see something for a new ?

@Jeff

IF Japan, (and I stress the IF part) is going to construct a next generation carrier type it will certainly be a full blown conventional aircraft carrier with offset flight deck and EMAL.

The size would be something between Izumo and Nimitiz class at around 290m length, 60,000~80,000 tonnes(full load).
Everything I have read and seen to date regarding a potential class of four air-centric vessels has indiated it would not be CATOBAR.

Basically a pocket carrier based on the Izumo has too many limitation for actual operation in real world situation of today.
I do not think so.

If it was optimized for F-35Bs with a suitable hanger, and carried a small squadron of EV-22 AEW, carrying maybe three AEW, 18 F-35Bs, and a couple of either SeaHawks or MV-22s for SAR, it would be a very capable vessel.

Here is one illustration I saw of what a JMSDF, fixed-air centric vessel might look like.

You can see how it would be a natural extension of the Izumo class. While I know the JMSDF would love to have a couple of full on carriers...I have to imagine that the Defense Ministry would also be happy with four of those type vessels shown above.

Compare that photo above with one of my favorite Izumo photos:

Izumo-01.jpg

Heat treat the deck, add the ski-jump, adjust the hanger accordingly along with the ordinance lifts and bunkerages, add Pri-fly...and you can get to that picture above fairly directly.

Then the JMSDF would have its four DDH for ASW, troops transport/movement, and humanitarian, one for each flitilla, and also add a fixed wing sea-control carrier for each too.

Vikrant-01.jpg

News World India said:
INS Viraat is all set to bid goodbye to the Indian Navy and INS Vikrant is all set to join the force, said Navy Chief Sunil Lanba.

While adressing a Press Conference at INS Shikra (Mumbai), Lanba said ” INS Viraat after having done service for 29 years, it is scheduled to be de-inducted to the later part of the year.”

“Ministry has written to coastal states, we are waiting for a proposal to come from one of these states. Once proposal is sent to ministry, will see how Viraat can be converted into an aircraft carrier museum.”

On INS Vikrant induction, he mentioned that For INS Vikrant, we are in touch with Kochin Shipyard. It is due to be inducted by December 2018

On matter of allegations against a medical officer by a subordinate in Southern Command, Lanba said ” Just received BOI report, being analysed.”

Lauding Indian Navy efforts, Lanba said “we are continously working towards indigenisation, till date 200 ships have been constructed indigenously and 46 are still under construction.”
This directly contradicts other media reports...but this is coming from the INdian Navl Chief.

Indian Navies largest warship INS Vikramaditya, which was missing crucial air defence systems for some time now, is all set to get at least some of them Air Defence Systems in its first refit at Karwar.

INS Vikramaditya currently has been docked in INS Kadamba Naval base located near Karwar in Karnataka. Sources have confirmed to idrw.org that Russian license build AK 630 close -in weapon system (CIWS) will be integrated with the ship.

CIWS is a crucial system for defence against incoming air attacks at very close range.
Israeli supplied Barak -1 point defence missile system (PDMS) will also be integrated on INS Vikramaditya which will provide close -range air defence against incoming missile as well as aircraft and drone attacks.

Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LRSAM) system which is a joint collaboration between India and Israel is still few months away from first test firing from an Indian warship. 70km range LRSAM likely will be integrated with INS Vikramaditya by mid next year.

These systems, if installed properly and with good sensors and integration, will help the Vikramaditya immensely in terms of self defense.

Much needed and a critical reason for this refit.
