Air Division, Regiments, ... Bases, Brigades, etc

Perhaps will be using for lower intense adversary's like in the southern border of China perhaps?

exactly .. also in the western border ... those fighters are more than enough .. cheap and "cheerful" :p .. and does the job just fine

I would say they are solidly obsolete everywhere but the PLA is spread pretty thin so they do need to keep up numbers in both personnel and equipment.

Just to be sure and to get it correctly: Currently the PLAAF was long structured along divisions, which are again subdivided into regiments, and so on ... now these regiments are superseded by brigades.

However what are the equivalent units and subunits within the USA and RAF??

Air Division (= Shi) – unit comprising usually 3 Regiments (= Tuan) with 3*24 aircraft

Air Brigade (= Lv or Lü) – unclear for the moment … most likely similar to a regiment

Air Regiment (= Tuan) – unit comprising usually 24 aircraft grouped in 3 Flying Groups (= Dadui)

Flying Group (= Dadui) – unit comprising usually 8 aircraft grouped in 2 Flying Squadrons (= Zhongdui)

Flying Squadron or ‘subunit’ (=Zhongdui) – unit comprising usually 4 aircraft

Or am I wrong?? Any corrections or input welcome.

Best,
Deino

To admit, I'm indeed surprised.

The 131. Brigade uses J-10C and transferred its J-10A to the 130. Brigade ... and I thought the 132. Brigade was abolished; however it is still active flying J-7BH and JJ-7.

Yep, kinda like putting a 1967 Mustang Fastback with a 302, up against a 2017 Mustang GT 5.0,,, its not competitive, but it may get the job done,,, I can tell you for sure, while I would prefer to drive a 1967 Mustang Fastback for nostalgia,, flying a J-7 into combat, NO WAY HOSEA! those birds are gonna show up like the big screen at the drive in movies!

Some pretty significant developments.
  1. 70th Brigade received J-10S
  2. The J-10S probably came from 72nd Brigade
    • If true, 72nd Brigade is probably receiving new J-10Cs
  3. 5th Brigade received J-10C (background of the picture), confirming they at least have a mix of J-10B and Cs
AKijrgS.png

This basically invalidates the rumours that 70th Brigade was going to receive brand new J-10Cs. Instead they received second-hand J-10S (and probably J-10As too) allowing for 72nd Brigade to operate new J-10Cs.

Bingo ... some most interesting news.
Also it raises the question, where will the J-7Gs go to??? and why retaining so many J-7Bs - IMO for training - while replacing the more modern J-7G?

What proof is out there that old J7B are being kept while modern J7G are being thrown away? Especially considering even the youngest J7B would be 32 years old today, and oldest J7G would be 15 years old. It just sounds so incredible that proof should be really strong for such a hypothesis.

@Deino

It seems the source of this picture was CAC's Wechat account so the J-10S is likely newly built. This invalidates my previous assertion of the 70th's prospects of receiving J-10Cs' being dead. A new J-10S for 70th Brigade probably means they're going to get new J-10Cs as well.

This means we don't know anything about the 72nd Brigade and they may be keeping their J-10S and J-10As for a bit longer. However, a well-known spotter group, Yankeesman's Spotters, said 72nd will be getting J-10Cs so we may see them transferring their old J-10As sometime in the future.
