I remember there were some border conflicts between Afghanistan and Pakistan before, but this time the intensity seems higher than usual. So I'm curious what the direct trigger for this conflict was.Nah it's been going ever since Pakistan declared independence. Basically it's an ethnic conflict due to Afghanistan seeing the Pashtun areas of Pakistan as being part of Afghanistan and they even invaded Pakistan.
The first news I saw was that a Pakistani airstrike in the Afghan capital killed a Pakistani Taliban official. I imagine there's some interesting story behind this.
