Great, so there's a general/tacit agreement on the practical issues at play here. We don't have to get into empire etc. On that, we can agree to disagree.

Pakistan Says Afghan Border Fence Nearly Complete

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s military says it will have fenced off the country’s roughly 2,600-kilometer historically porous border with Afghanistan within the next two months.

The Pakistan Army has revealed today that 83% of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has been completely fenced and work is ongoing on complete fencing by mid-2021. Work on the fence began in 2017 with a $500 million price tag.

The entire border will be double-fenced with 3 meter tall chain-link fences separated by barbed wire. The 2,600 kilometer long fence will cut through snow capped mountain peaks in the north to valleys and plains in the south.

Furthermore, ISPR also revealed that 30% of the 900 kilometer long Pakistan-Iran border has also been similarly fenced and work will complete by late 2021.

Both borders will be surveilled by hundreds of color and thermal-imaging cameras as well as armed reconnaissance drones and will also feature hundreds of major and minor border forts manned by Pakistani forces.

What was the military edge USA have over a bunch of separate goat herders in Afghan? Do not even need the entire fcking country of Afghan.
10,000 to 1 ?
Or is it the Afghan goat herders have military technology greater than USA??
I finished reading “the Outpost” by Jake Tapper. How a bunch of goat herders in Afghan with AKs and rpgs and IEDs (because they do not have billion dollar industry to make bombs like USA, can only make bombs in backyard on a DIY basis) taking out USA brave men despite they having 155 howizters , 120 mm mortars , Ma Deuces, A-10s, properly build bombs, B52s and helicopter gunships , AC-130 Spectre Gunships and billions of dollars backing them and not so good in protecting them.
If USA fought bravely with massive firepower behind them, then what about the goat herders with only AKs and RPGs fighting against USA knowing they fighting against 155 howizters , 120 mm mortars , Ma Deuces, A-10s, properly build bombs, B52s and helicopter gunships , AC-130 Spectre Gunships ?
Even more fucking brave is the least I can say of the Afghans goat herders. Who were untrained knowing only how to herd goats unlike the USA special forces who went through countless hours and weeks and months learning how to kill and kill.
Yet who won? And who left Afghan?
Maybe USA army should consider making their fighting folks do a course in goat herding . As who knows, maybe herding goats might be better to build up fighting skills.

USA got fcked when USA tried that in Afghan . Against a bunch of tribesmen when USA had 1000 the firepower over them. And after a trillion of dollars what have USA got to show in Afghan?

The Afghan Taliban showed off restored Soviet tanks. Despite the impressive arsenal of military equipment remaining after the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban restored and displayed Soviet military equipment. The military equipment is reportedly located at one of the storage bases near Herat. The video shows Soviet tanks T-55, T-62M, armored vehicles BMP-1 and BMP-2, as well as American tracked armored personnel carriers M-113. It is unknown how combat-ready the equipment really is, but outwardly it is in order and can move.

These T-62M has protection of comparable to T-72A. The 115mm smoothbore is also pretty powerful for the generation. With some optics upgrade it can easily defeat most 2nd gen tanks like M60. At worst it is a protected artillery piece.

More than a decade ago, there was an infield report by ABC News covering the event of an American base being overrun by Taliban. The reporters recieved videos of the attack from Taliban, as well as interviews from the commanders which had clues in it as to why the US was set to lose the war.
  1. The commanders said that "locals tipped us off about the Americans".
  2. The reporter, standing on the edge of Kabul, pointed at the horizon and said "if you go just a few miles outside Kabul, you're in Taliban-controlled territory .. armed Taliban patrol the streets openly".
#1 demonstrates that the general Afghan population was sympathetic to Taliban, providing intelligence on NATO troop movement throughout the country.

#2 demonstrates that NATO did not really have any control outside of Kabul (and a few other cities), quite contrary to the Western belief that NATO is in control of the country. This also explains how "Taliban was able to retake the entire country in just one week after NATO's departure in 2021" (they weren't retaking the entire country, rather just a few cities that they didn't control).

Some other reports included,
  • Afghan National Army (set up by NATO) was heavily infiltrated by Taliban moles.
  • NATO contracted Taliban directly for postal service around the country.
  • Taliban judicial courts were the defacto jurisprudence throughout the war.
