Gee:confused: I did not know the US missile field did not work?? Just like when the US was developing the cruise missile the "experts" said they would not work.

Well got news for Jones Henry..It has been working..As for the rest of your post. It's just the ramblings of a dreamer.

One more thing..my son that is on active duty in the USN says the Missile Shield system is "Da Sh*t!"

US: Missile Shield Intercept Successful

A US navy missile over the Pacific intercepted a target missile, which the military on Thursday said was the fifth successful test of a system to shield North America.
The navy said the Standard Missile 3 interceptor is designed to destroy medium- to long-range missiles on the fly.

The navy launched the target missile from the Hawaiian island of Kauai and launched the Standard Missile 3 from the USS Lake Erie about 160 kilometers (100 miles) away, according to a statement.

The Aegis missiles collided, using the same technology as a ground-based system designed to destroy long-range missiles and used by army's Patriot system.

Also Thursday, Canada announced that it would not participate in the US system because of broad domestic opposition.

Ottawa had been mulling its stand on the US missile defense program for more than a year, and political analysts expected the decision.

The Pentagon is seeking a 20 percent boost in funding for the program, from 7.7 billion dollars this year to 9.2 billion dollars in 2005.

Plans calls for deploying 20 ground-based interceptor missiles and up to 10 sea-based missiles by the end of fiscal 2005.

not exactly a sheild yet...more like post defence. its going to be while before any country actually makes a sheild. and the wholething is close to useless. what will it do? the twenty first century is one fougt in the computer world. no one will nuke anybody. its just another expensive cold war project.

no offense to anyone who likes the missles.

It's acually A LOT cheaper to develop new stealth and super sonic missiles then to upgrade that "missile shiled" of yours, and you have to remember, than the enemy can before a missile hit "pound" you a bit with for instanche EMP weapons. Personally, i think its just a big waiste of money. I think, that in the future for instanche China will have small nano bullets that move at the speed of sound, are almost imposible to track, and still are VERY deadly! But if you want to have a giant and expensive maginot in the sky, go right a head:D

One thing i was also thinking, is to make the "missile" more like an airplane(developed cruise missile)and give it an AI(artificial intelligence)The "original" missile could also launch smaller decoy missiles to fool the missile defence. I think, that with nano techonology you can soon put that "missile defence" of yours to a true challenge:D

"the engineer"
once again, jones henry, nanotechnology is not that easy to develop, i don't know what your education background is, but as a engineer, i can tell you this. it takes months just to calculate the math and physics behind a nano-system. even longer to design the materials, because materials that are most commonly used today such as polymers, metals and ceramics act on totally different properties on a nano-scale. 10^-9 is not exactly a big number to work with.

I'm hoping we find a way to use nano-technology for peaceful purposes. Seems there are alot of applications for it's uses.

here is the thing, the missile firing missile you mentionned is not really a good thing, because it takes away the payload of the missile. Russians have talked about developing a nuclear missile that splits to counter the American missile defense system.

To be honest, I think all the major powers have some form of emergency missile defense plan in tact. I remember talking to someone about the Russian missile defense. Apparently, a friend of my knows a guy that worked on the Russian nuclear missile defense. The Russians actually use clouds (believe it or not) as a deterrent. Now, the cloud is generated as a shield and will deflect the nukes away from the urban areas. I'm telling you the idea sounds almost like a sci-fi movie, but apparently this guy had the scientific theorems to back it up. Anyways, so this nuclear shield will deflect the nukes away from the main centers and ICBMs, so then Russia can launch retaliation attacks. Even the deflected nukes will still destroy probably 2/3 of the Russian population and majority of the environment. But yeah, it's better than loosing everyone.

I'm sure outside of the starwar shield idea, America has something else for absolute emergencies.
