I think when Huawei was blacklisted, China already saw little point in continuing the trade talk. There are going to be more pressure on China to which she will continue to counter-retaliate.

I don't see how it's going to be beneficial to China if she is forced to spend an additional $200 billion just to reduce the deficit.

Better to say "to hell with all the trade-talk bullshit" and spend the money on its own technology development.

My comments:
- This ban seems mainly "symbolic" -- Hygon doesn't sell outside China anyways. Sugon will likely suffer in their Intel-based supercomputer sales, but Wuxi Jiangnang (an SOE, I believe) will survive and build on their current AMD tech.

Its not symbolic, its for home consumption to feed the public via their MSM that make Trump look tough, and US strong

Absolutely, which is why China ignored Trump's begging for a meeting at the G20. I'm surprised China agrees to meet at all.

Basically, Trump overplayed and not trying to find a way of backing down gracefully.

China has enough generosity to save Trump's face. His plea was unmistakable as the election is drawing nearer and the calls from a multitude of corporations asking for cancellation of the tariffs became a chorus.

China doesn't have anything to offer him. Let's see if Trump's desperate enough to start offering or if we need to leave him to to dry some more. It's always good to accept talks with someone who is desperate and not too smart.

But I have to say one thing though: Trump would have to offer something sweet and very difficult to worm out of like he always does in his deals. China at first wanted to make a deal and didn't think the trade war was serious but recently it just got dialed in and ready to fight. It would be almost disappointing and anti-climactic to avert confrontation now.

I don't expect anything more than not imposing 25% tariffs on the remainder of China's exports and a bit of relaxation of the impact on some American companies like Apple and Microsoft.

All the sanctions and embargoes on Huawei and other Chinese companies need to be removed, before any trade deal can be made.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo, keep the ban on Huawei! Huawei and China's tech sector just got full steam ahead to self-reliance and you want them to go back to Google and Qualcomm? This is the chance of a lifetime to switch out from US parts without alarming the world as protectionist policy! I know it's satisfying to make Trump walk back but don't make him undo his mistakes!
