9 Hong Kong tourist dead in Manila hostage shootout

While this is a completely disrespectful photo (theres photos of Filipino police smiling in front of the bus as well) the last thing any of us what to see is discrimination against any group of people because of the insensitive and short-sighted actions of a few terrible idiots.

the Filipinos are sure to get a really stinking reputation in hong kong people's eyes after this incident. actually, i should say..reinforced. hong kong should restrict/ban imports from philippines as a way of expressing anger

Judging by the news reports, the livefeed through the TV in the bus played a big part in agitating him to start killing the tourists. I would say, besides the police being incompetent, the TV station is partly responsible for the death of the tourists.

Agreed with you. The media should bear some of the blame too... but isn't it also within the police jurisdiction to control the media from reporting it LIVE on television?

The media control and the crowd control is a total joke in the Philippines. Plus the indifference the general public show to the suffering of people was astonishing (look at Popeye's photo a few thread above.)

This is not a good place to go on vacation.

That basically means that it's a hell of a lethal mix when you have 2 groups of people, the media and the police, who don't know what they're doing.

I agree.^^^ The photo of the photo of the young women was in my opinion meant to in flame the Hong Kong people againt Filipina domestics in Hong Kong. Yes I know very strong words..

No need for anyone to blame the Filipino people for this debacle. The blame lies solely on the shoulders of Manila Police.

If this kind of a hostage thing happened in China, it is entirely possible, no one would ever know, that anyone died. Atleast, no one would know, if only Chinese citizens die in China. Foreigners are atleast accounted for.

What are you talking about? China reports on plenty of domestic deaths due to violence and accident. The Tibet and Xinjiang riots, the attack on Shanghai police, the Shanghai and Yunnan bus bombings, they were all reported.

I completely agree and this sane line of thinking.

It is cleary racist to blame Filipinos as a race.

I was appalled to read above, when some one suggested that China demand that Philipines permit Chinese special forces to take action in all such future hostage situations.

Hypothetically consider some Israeli tourists get killed in China in a similar situation .... and Israel demand from China that it's special forces be permitted to handle all future hostage situations in China (claiming that China's police are nothing more that loose shirts).

I am sure .. this forum will erupt in flames, even if such a suggestion were made.

So, dear friends, when you can't tolerate even a hint of humiliation yourself .... why don't you give due respect to Phillipines which a sovereign country in it's own right.

In good spirit, why don't you train Philippines special forces ???
(assuming chinese special forces are better).

Those who died, were human beings first ... and only then Chinese or HK people.

I really don't see what is wrong with sending Chinese special forces in to protect Chinese citizens given how badly they handled this situation. Checkout a video of how an ordinary PAP woman handled a hostage situation in Guangdong recently.

What do you mean assuming Chinese Special forces are better? They've won numerous times in International Special Forces Tournaments and have been trained hunting down well armed drug-smugglers on the China-Myanmar borders. Even if they are no Mossad you won't find them breaking into buses with hammers!

I do agree that the racial smudging against the Filipinos is ridiculous. The corrupt government is clearly at fault here, not the people. The Filipino police is only a projection of governmental inefficiency and the problem needs to be solved from its roots.
