HI,
by the way we have to see USA is blocking Chinese oil carriers im sure they will not stop Chinese flag carriers on their way to China, otherwise next month Xi meeting with Trump can be harsh or might get cancel
thank you
Maybe someone has told him thats exactly what he needs to do, to 'show' china they arent afraid of them or something before the meeting.
He is gullible enough to fall for it.

Blockade for a blockade, toll for a toll?

Iranian MP who was part of the talks in Islamabad is telling the 3 main points.

TLDW
The disputed US demands included:
1 joint sharing of Strait of Hormuz benefifs
2 removal of Iran's 60% enriched uranium stockpiles from the country
3 20-year suspension of Iran's uranium enrichment rights.

This move is making me scratch my head. If the goal is to inflict severe economic damage on Iran, just blow up all their oil production. Even if they were charging tolls it would take hundreds/thousands of ships to make up for the cost in Oil infrastructure repairs. Given the economic fallout for Iran with a closed strait, oil infrastructure attacks on GCC is now back on the table. Attacks on Iranian oil infrastructure would've led to the same outcome without pissing off everyone, well everyone will still be pissed but not getting their civilian ships boarded pissed.

30k ships transited Hormuz Strait annually before the war. Iran demanding $2m / ship. Do the math: $60b / year.

A 400,000 bpd refinary will cost upwards of 15 billion to construct in Saudi Arabia. And Iran is exporting about 1.8m bbl/ day during the war. Given that kharg exports 90% of Iranian oil if the US would level it I think the cost to Iranian infrastructure would be pretty comparable to a year in tolls. The war is unlikely to last a year.

Edit: actually they made $34 billion via oil exports in 2024, so in theory sure they can make double that via a toll, but that's if the war ends right now and the US just gives up.
