It will be profitable. Ticket revenue is only 5% of actual overall Olympic revenue for host city. The majority of revenue come from licensing fees to TV and broadcasting worldwide + sponsorships. Considering the relatively high viewership, and relatively low costs of hosting, it should be decently profitable.
Yeah I watched this before the Olympics started.
The guy pretty much states the same thing. The effects of pandemic on tickets sales is limited as it is about 5%. The big items are exclusive TV broadcast rights and sponsors. They are about 90%. He argues not all countries can profit from staging Olympics. But China is going upwards and the Olympics will further accelerate the development of facilities and infrastructure in that area like zhang Jia kou that is already planned for. This is even not including the future increase in winter sports participation, and overall health benefits for the population.
