075 LHD thread

Looking at it from a strategic and lessons learned perspective it makes sense for China to want more LHDs sooner. With OBOR crisscrossing actually and potentially unstable countries and regions it is highly likely that China will both need to face and want to conduct increased MOOTW. While the 071 LPDs are passable for such missions, LHDs with much increased vertical airlift capabilities would be much better. I am not sure if Chinese transport helicopter development is on track to provide a great mid-sized type but overall they are already capable of providing passable helicopters of all types. The LHDs will be handy for actual war as well but their real value would come from MOOTW.

I think many of us expect the Z-20 to be adapted for naval use, just as the UH-60 has been. It seems to be the only 10-12t medium-lift helicopter suitable for the role. The Z-15 is only 7.8t MTOW, the Z-9 is hopelessly even smaller at 4.1t, and the PLAN doesn't seem to have purchased any more copies of the 12t Ka-28 recently.

A navalized Z-18 transport/assault variant would also be a very good platform and I can see navalized variants of both Z-20 and Z-18, as well as ASW variants of both, serving aboard 075

You think like this picture suspect? The runway seems to long for a LHA, half could be better.

In all honesty I don't think that the length of the runway onboard a Chinese LHA would matter much, unless the PLAN is planning on deploying STOVL aircraft from them in the future like the Tarawa class.
The runway pictured above is most likely only being used to give a rough idea on how the LHA would distribute the helicopter landing pads on them.

Yes, that's simply the CFTE and IMO in no way related to the LHA. It's just the old original track with the ski-ramp for the J-15.

To assume it would represent a LAH-deck or even to calculate dimensios is IMO a bit far fetched.
