I'm surprised how much higher the flight-deck level of the 075 is above sea level in comparison to the 002.

I wonder if the 075 is sitting higher in the water (i.e.: not as heavily loaded) as CV-17.

That said it's also not unusual for an LHD to have a greater flight deck height than a carrier, necessarily.

you mean 075 could have a higher hanger? uhhhmmm, what for?

LHDs have both a hangar deck and a well deck that contribute to extra height from the waterline to the flight deck whereas a carrier only has a hangar deck.

Depending on the specific type of LHD and the specific type of carrier and their own respective sizes, it could mean certain carrier and LHD comparisons might have the LHD have a slightly higher height from waterline to flight deck.

I'm not sure if this picture of 075 and CV-17 is representative of their true waterline levels, but I wouldn't be surprised if 075 did have a higher flight deck than CV-17.

It isn't like they specifically designed 075 to have a higher flight deck or higher hangar deck than CV-17 or anything, it just happened to be the case from the requirements of the ship.

Speaking from experience, Mistral class flight deck is also higher compared to Charles de Gaulle's... Maybe this is the consequence of the multiple levels of hangar spaces (for helicopter and vehicles) aboard amphibious vessels compared to a single level of hangar aboard aircraft carrier

Intrepid

Major
Hight of flightdeck over waterline:
  • CV 9 Essex had 18 meters
  • CV 41 Midway had only 16 meters due to the heavy armored flight deck and stability reasons - that was considered to low in heavy sea
  • CV 68 Nimitz has 20 meters

may be it is not fully loaded with amphibian tanks, hovercraft and troops....
They should both be ballasted about the same, for stability reasons. I wouldnt expect Type 075 to sit a lot lower even fully loaded. Also Shandong is rather empty as well.

Yesterday a few PSed images of the first 075 were posted with the number '31' ... I know that these are faked, but are there already rumours around concerning the future pennant number and name?
