How do you know this is true since nobody has ever seen a Chinese CSG? We do know for sure the PLAN has definitively veered away from the Soviet model of the carrier group where the fighters are mainly anti-air and designed to provide air cover to get the ships close enough to launch their missiles. This is a totally obsolete strategy in my view, especially when pitted against a US carrier group which uses fighters as its primary means of offense and the ships are all escorts built mainly to keep the carrier alive. The way things are shaping up with the kinds of ships coming out recently and the disposition of the Liaoning itself, I think it's pretty clear that the PLAN is going all in with the American view of carrier doctrine.
The strategic purposes of both countries are very different. The US wants to maintain their military superiority over all other countries. China wants to escape from that situation, wants to achieve international relations more nearly resembling the Westphalian model. This naturally results in different military doctrines and corresponding equipment choices.

I don't know where you get this from. In fact I would argue that Chinese military doctrine is drawn from US military doctrine more and more these days. Chinese military equipment choices are looking more and more American these days as its military industrial base has become more mature/advanced. Also, a CVBG is a CVBG. There are only so many ways to use a CVBG. Actually, there is only one way to use a CVBG, and that is to project military power to a distant region by domination of the battlespace in all three domains: air, sea, and undersea. You don't have to be some kind of geopolitical interventionalist to try and achieve the best means to project military power via a carrier battle group. IMO you would actually be hard pressed to argue that the PLAN is trying to achieve anything other than EXACTLY the American model of carrier doctrine/operations, i.e. the use of fighters as the primary means of offense and the rest of the battle group structured and deployed to keep the carrier alive and operational. "Strategic purposes" doesn't have to have anything to do with the most effective and efficient way to use a CVBG.

Guys, take the CSG discussion to the PLAN Carrier, or the Carrier strategy pages.

It's a great discussion, but is off topic here, and really should be on one of those pages so others seeking that type of discussion can see it and take part in it. They will not naturally look for that here on the Type 056 thread.

BACK ON TOPIC.

Thanks.

which ship used to have the 503 serial number before?

Type 065 frigate, original hull number 233 changed to 503 in 1980. Entered service in 1969 (SSF), retired probably in the latter half of 1990s (not sure when exactly).

From what ive seen on Chinese military websites, which includes HSH.............another 056 Corvette is expected to be commissioned into the PLAN this weekend, making it the 12th (?) 056 Frigate to become active in the fleet.

Here is an extract of the news:

"LUZHOU, June 5 (ChinaMil) -- A type-056 light guided missile frigate named “Luzhou” will be soon commissioned to the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, according to local media in Luzhou, Sichuan province.

It is learnt that the naming ceremony for the frigate will be officially held on June 7, 2014 and it will be the second Chinese warship named after a city in Sichuan province. The frigate will serve to protect China’s interests and territorial integrity in the South China Sea"
