So, HD and HP will be building them. Two being built at the same time? They may build a lot of them to begin with.

Very nice...and my illustrations is very similar and based on that design.

I think it will be a very good addition to the PLAn and will be built in some numbers.

The early 056 pictures of the model (presented in HK?) and artist impressions did not show the triple torpedo launchers. When did the torpedo launchers start appearing in the CG drawings?

Probably when people started to believe that these will be the missing ASW link for the PLAN. Notice also the number of openings in those CGs that are clearly meant for TAS.

It would be interesting to see if the real things have these features, or if they are just the product of wishful thinking.

The 056 is too small to have a helicopter hanger, besides it's not envisioned to operate too far from shores.

If there is no TAS and torpedo tubes on these then there is no real point to build them.
save the hassle and just build more 037s.
1000 extra tons for crew comfy and a helo pad? too much.

Latest artwork shows torpedoe tubes and openings for TAS. I believe they will have them.

I also believe they will operate a helo from the pad as requiired...who knows how much service they will be able to provide (fueling? arming? etc.) and believe that the door into the structure forward of the pad may be big enough to allow a small helo UAV to be housed there.

Time will tell...but clearly they intend to build these (are building what appears to be one each at HP and HD as we converse) and will have ensured that the vessels are outfitted enough to meet the OPV role they envision which I believe almost certainly will be ASW, with an ASuW secondary for protecting litoral waters and combatting piracy.

I agree...

HP and HD are the first of the class builders for 037 as well.
the first builders get the techniques right and iron all the manufacturing bugs out. then the rest of smaller builders will join and assemble them en mass.

I still hoped that they would get a helicopter hangar. something like a flexible. telescoping one would do.
the best ASW weapon is a helo.
