Wonder if midstream, someone felt the Hong Kong squadron didn't need as high of a priority so the numbering for the other two squadrons moved ahead. 596 is the first pennant yet so far, squadron 596-599 is the one that is incomplete when it logically would have been the first one to be all built out.

Certainly. The expectation was that the first two from Huangpu and the first two from Hudong would all go to Hong Kong. And then we suddenly have 582 at Hudong...

On second thought, maybe it's possible they decided to only have two go to HK. Afterall, there was discussion a while back indicating that only two 037-IIs are actually homeported there at any given time due to space constraints.

But four will be assigned to HK, only two are forward deployed to Stonecutter Island, the rest are at the HK Garrison Logistics Base in Shenzhen.

Yes, that is the current arrangement.

The Shenzhen-Shekou facility is at 22 30 41 N 113 51 46 E, best seen on 03.03.10 - look at the Panoramio pictures, too.

The bow sonar housing looks rather small, which likely will limit it to HF only, making it not a very effective sub-chaser as some on the forum had hoped. Unless a future ASW version comes out, this OPV seems more fitting as a souped-up general purpose patrol craft as is.

The 056 is not an ASW platform, as stated previously.
