My take is in favour of it being an ABM missile, perhaps HQ-26. Looks similar to the Evolved THAAD Interceptor.

That probably isn't the best image, because other frames show that there are visible fins at the bottom of the "neck".

Personally, based on timing, and noise, I have a feeling this missile is more likely to be the AShBM/HGV type weapon rather than HQ-26.

We do also expect an ABM like HQ-26 to emerge in the near future, but the geometry of the weapon, with the fins on the neck that could correspond to the bottom of the RV, while the first stage is a booster, seems more sensible to me.

If it was meant to be ABM like THAAD, I feel like the second stage/kill vehicle wouldn't have those fins present, and the size of the respective stages and location of the fins doesn't look like it would correspond to a SM-3 configuration either.

Recall that in October 2016 a mystery missile resembling a notional "HQ-26" was seen being tested from the weapons trial ship.

To be fair, that missile is not distinct enough to determine what it might be -- apart from likely being a two stage weapon, with the presumed booster being noticeably shorter than the second stage/kill vehicle.

I do think that the most likely identity of that missile is either a VLR SAM or an ABM.

That missile I think is also quite likely different from what we've seen on this occasion.

The S-300V/SA-12 Giant is an ABM with fins on the upper stage and a very large booster.

The SM-3 series follows an incremental design process where the missile body and boosters for Block I is recycled from the SM-2 ER series. Had it been a clean slate design as a PLAN ABM would be, the size ratio of the booster and upper stages wouldn’t necessarily be what it is today.
