All good points, I must say, but why does it have to be an enemy sub that could potentially track and take down the screening sub? Having one more source of noise means that not only is your CBG more exposed to passive acoustic sensors but your enemy could not more precisely track the defending assets. After all, submarines that are slated for CBG protection would still have to "fight it out" with an attacking asset, and the fact that it is louder would place it at a disadvantage. I'm not sure how big of a difference the carrier's ASW screen would make since any attacking force would have supportive naval platforms of their own.

Personally I don't think any nation should compromise sub acoustic stealth for the sake of faster development.

You compromise sub acoustics in order to have some submarines when you need it rather than no submarines at all.

And so how is that different from using your current (albeit noisy) SSNs while waiting a few extra years for a really good successor? It seems that you are suggesting that China should half-ass (figuratively-speaking) its next-gen SSN so the boat could enter service quicker.

Presumably half baked new subs will still be significantly better than current subs, while being available much sooner than full baked new subs.

Other major producers of nuclear subs have all seem to require 3 or more distinct incremental classes of SSN before considering their skills, experiences and techniques adaquate for achieving a sufficiently perfected and settled design suitable for mass production.

Richard...watch your language.

Your use of the initial terms that I changed could easily be termed flame baiting.

while I agree with your analysis, please be sure to word t in such a way so as not to PO a large part of our forum.

Thanks

A ultra modern carrier strike package

Off course that won't be the only mix PLAN has many combinations they can use
