He stated it was a rumor. I doubt there is a link with anything verifiable. If there is a link it is probably to another forum or blog just stating what we just read.

He says it is a rumor from a guy who has an "eerie capability" of leaking "stuff" before the big shrimps do.

Maybe he does...maybe he doesn't.

One thing is for sure, it will not take too long to find out if a May 2014 start of build occurs.

And it's just 6 months later :)

Yep, although some individuals do have more credibility than others.

I wonder if that date is when steel cutting will begin or assembly of modules.

In which case we may start seeing 055 appear in a physical sense around that time too.

Looks like module assembly to me too.

Module assembly is a technology advancement which tests a country's shipbuilding capabilities in precision engineering!

Well chinese shipyards have used module assembly since the early 2000s. I believe the first 052B/Cs used module assembly, and every other class since has as well.

Hi all,

A sharing of fan art. From an article

Article states the construction of Type 055 would commence next year instead... Take it as a pinch of salt.

I observed that:

1) The design of this "Type 055" has an unconventional position of two exhust towers in staggered layout as well as the placing of VLS besides the exhust tower.

2) Those are significantly larger VLS than the front and rear bow VLS. The larger VLS could be an indication of storage of larger missiles.

Looks like the same size missile launchers, unless they are deeper.

48 in the one VLS forward, and 64 in both of the two VLS launchers amidships. That would total 172 missiles.

One FL-3000N launcher forward, and a total of three 730 CIWS spread out around the aft half of the vessel and then a two helo hanger.

I'm not to sure aboyt the VLS systems being right next to engineering like that and the two funnels being offset like that.

I somewhat dislike this design, they make some rather strange choices, nor is there any meaningful increase in stealth. If anything it looks like an expanded 052D with offset smoke stacks (for some reason).

Not to mention there are waayyyy too many "Type 347 "-esque radars... I think the artist may have meant them to be terminal illuminators, note how they're positioned in the ship's "arch" like a burke. Of course the artist missed the memo where neither 052C or 052D have illuminators and their SAMs are active radar guided...

All in all, 4/10. Nice try, but resembles more an 052D mixed with flight iia burke, the latter of which the artist much have drawn much inspiraton from.

(also, the RHIB crane is exposed outside, even though the ship has enclosed davits which would normally have its crane tucked inside as well. Also the main gun is way too large compared to the VLS, assuming the VLS is meant to be the same as 052Ds. Different sized VLS is also very unrealistic. It really is a mess of a design, tbh)

The offset funnels have existed before, such as on horizon class, or akizuki class.
