So why are you disappointed that it only has 112 cells?

P.S. Do we know how much larger than Mk. 41 PLAN's universal VLS actually is?
Many reasons, all more or less inconsequential, one of them being simply unmet expectations. So my "disappointment" with 112 is equally inconsequential, as I have already stated before.

Obviously there are going to be outliers in any trend.
So you've just invalidated the FREMM as ANY kind of example of your trend. Like I said for the Daring, it's actually built for 64 cells + 8 slant launchers and only failed to realize its full potential due to UK's poor financial situation rather than as part of any supposed design trend. As for the Horizon, I forgot the thing also has 8 slant launchers for a total of 56 missiles at 7,000t. There go actually all three of your examples of an alleged "trend".

The universal VLS going by the GJB document supposedly has a diameter cross section of 0.85m. I can't recall the diameter of Mk-41. I think it is a fair bit smaller however.

Not sure why you think it will look anything other than like this:

This CGI is apparently coming from a "spotter", not some random internet artist.

I'm well aware of that, however I harbour some doubt as to whether the spotter is getting all the details right, or if he has not seen the entire ship in such detail and is taking certain liberties.

Specifically, I think the bow and the front half of the ship's design and proportions are probably fairly accurate considering the location from where the spotter is likely viewing the ship from. But I'm not so sure about the rest of the amidships and aft portion of the ship, as I imagine those parts of the ship would be fairly difficult to see from the spotter's location.

Of course it's possible the spotter has gotten all of it right and he may be able to see everything that he's depicted, but in my experience I think it's sensible to exercise some caution regarding details of an upcoming ship's or aircraft's design until pictures of the whole thing emerge. I still remember the lead up to J-20, Y-20 and 052D about certain design details that were still yet to be settled and only definitively closed once we got clear pictures of the whole thing.

Still hanging on to hope about that amidships prediction of yours I see. :)

According to

link Mk. 41 is 22" inches (55.9cm) square while Mk. 57 is 25" (63.5cm) square. If the dimensions given are correct, measurement for Chinese Universal VLS is 23.5" (60.1cm)

Cross-sectional area:
Mk. 41: 3125cm2
CUVLS: 3612cm2 (+16% vs. Mk. 41)
Mk. 57: 4032cm2 (+29% vs. Mk. 41)

Of course at this point Mk. 57 is basically a waste of space given that nobody is going to be producing munitions that can be equipped on only three ships.
