I have searched for this construction ceremony and havent found anything except an image of a blue billboard with 055 and a bunch of chinese caracters. Does anyone has found more than that?

That is the ceremony we speak of.

If it was real then it is a lot more than we usually get.

That image doesnt really show much. Beyond the billboard, there is nobody present and only traces of a hangar or something like that above the billboard. I find it odd that someone took a picture of the presentation billboard and no other pictures were taken from the ceremony. If at least we had a photo with just one person, we would be more certain that something happened there.

In fact, i also found pictures poking fun of this photo. Including mentioning a robot.

No one's claiming it is irrefutable evidence that 055 construction did begin at that time, but that of course does not mean we should dismiss it because the photo corresponds with other rumours at the time claiming that the photo was legit and that 055 construction did indeed begin at that time.

Seriously kroko, you've been here long enough, you should know how the rumours->limited possible evidence->greater evidence->confirmation cycle works by now
Right now with regards to 055 construction we are still at the first two stages of rumours being circulated with some limited possible evidence.

The steel cutting ceremony is generally accepted as an event which did occur and is indicative of the beginning of 055 production... during discussions it's not called "supposed" steel cutting ceremony or something like that, mostly because it would get too tedious.

If we're being pedantic about it, then yes, the photo is one which is highly suspected to indicate the start of 055 construction though we lack evidence to irrefutably prove it. However other rumours and indications do suggest it appears to be legitimate.

Whether you accept this or not is your own call.

One of the moderator at cjdby predicting we will see real pictures of 055 in the year 2016. Let's see how credible his prediction will be next year. I can't wait for 2016 to come with so many projects coming to fruition. It's going to be an exciting year for PLA watchers.:D

Is a vessel's steel-cutting ceremony usually concurrent with its keel-laying ceremony? If so, we could be looking at one year or so before the first 055 hits the water, other vessels' construction timelines are anything to go by (assuming that the steel-cutting ceremony had indeed occurred in December 2014).

Because this would be the first 055, I'd expect it takes a bit longer to adjust and tooling, etc, etc. So I am hoping to see a clear photo of 055 (being built) by the end of this year and the launch might be in mid 2016

I highly doubt 055 will be built in multiples at first. PLAN probably will build one first, test it and learn from it, and then built them in large batches. 055 seems to be a completely different hull design from 052 series, so it's very unlikely that they would risk building something that new in large numbers.

True, but many of the subsystems are inherited from 052D, so I don't think we should assume that they will do the old "build a pair, test them out" prior to launching into serial production simply because it is a new hull.

I think the Chinese shipbuilding industry has reached a point where they can start serial production of a new class of warship like this without need for long trials to gain confidence.

It's worth remembering that most of the rest of the world builds new classes of warships directly in a serial manner without test ships. The reason that China was forced to in the 90s and 2000s had less to do with trialling the hulls and more about the subsystems.
