A nice comparison by hongjian and hmmvw over on CDF, comparing 055 to 052D, scaled of course. The VLS placement and number is speculative, as is the extension of the bow and the helipad (all of which I believe are reasonable).

The comparison pic was done using the main gun as reference.

Yes...the Type 055 will be the newest, large hull design.

We had the Zumwalt, which is definitiely a brand new design, but the first was started some years ago and is now launched. We had the Korean KDX III Se Jong...which although based on the Burke, was still a new design and really showed what the maximizing of that hull form could do.

We also had, of course the Type 045, Daring...which are quite a bit smaller but are nonetheless a new design.

But the Type 055 will be exciting and I am anxiously awaiting the first pics of the hull coming together in a PRC shipyard.

I'm just excited to see what 055 looks like.

It has been quite a few years since we've seen a new large surface combatant of this kind of weight class, on an original hull, reveal itself.

Zumwalt was the last one, but we knew what DDG1000 class would have looked like when the first official CGIs came out in the early-mid 2000s. But with 055, despite probably being in development for the last decade, it will still be new to us when we actually first set eyes on the real thing. That of course, is what makes following the PLA so interesting -- we never really know what we're going to get until we finally get it.

Agree, few years ago the most intriguing subject for me following the PLA was the J-20. But after seeing so many pics and reading numerous articles about it, it's not quite as exotic and exciting as before when we only see blurry images of it's beauty. Now the thing I'm most looking forward to is her flying with indigenous engines.

The new sexy girls in town for me now is 055 and JH-XX. I'm keep coming back to the forum and hoping one day someone will post an image of the real thing just like the J-20 was few years ago. I'm sure it will worth the wait, but still sometimes I wish we have a fast forward control to move few years ahead so we can see them all eariler. :p

That's indeed an excellent pic putting things in perspective showing just how big 055 DDG will be comapring to 052C/D. I honestly didn't think the size was that much difference before seeing this comparison from the top angle.

For me, type 095/096 is the one I wait, since submarine need the highest and delicate tech

The bridge radar covers should be bigger in that rendition.

Actually, it is about the right size.

Keep in mind the arrays will look far smaller on 055 than on 052D because 055 is a much bigger ship.
