But 48 VLS cells on this size frigate seems to be too many IMHO. I would go with 32 for sure...but 48 VLS, a full helo hanger, the main gun, eight SSMs in canisters, the FL-3000N, and the integrated mast with phased array radars would tend to push the displacement up over 5,500 tons to me.

I agree. we need a much more official source and specifications.

I do not doubt for a second that China will have a follow on FFG you can't have a navy like China without FFG

Maybe they will build 22 x Type 054A plus 2 x Type 054 and stop this year after 6 x Flotillas are equipped

Then they can move on to a follow on FFG and the production run continues

Personally I think this picture is a fanboy stuff the bridge looks like to be copied from RN Type 26 FFG so i doubt this image

Since, We all know that 20 are already in the water.

Would anyone update the current status of remaining 2??

Is the construction already started in HD or HP??

16 in active service, 3 outfitting, and last one at 'HP' shipyard to be launched sometime 2014!

Total in 054A class as known now = 20

Once we get some pics of HP and HD we will know if there is modules for FFG and wether or not Type 054A will conclude or not

Yay, I made this post purely for show-off. I took this pic 3 hours ago, 2 054A under construction in Shanghai.

I guess these are the last few of 054A and soon we will viva for 054B/057

If that is a recent picture then there is no modules I can see does this mean thats it for Type 054A?

That's interesting just like they did for DDG they may suprise eveyone with FFG and slip in a new varient this year

Well that's exciting news I would expect forward and aft universal VLS system with 48 cells for a new larger FFG have the ability to launch under water UAV and also deck based rotor UAV along with very good mine clearing capabilitys

Btw, a more common name for underwater UAV is UUV, LOL
