Not to me at all.

It looks like a DDG hull with nothing built/installed top side yet.

Far too small to be a carrier, and the hull form is all wrong.

If it is a DDG, perhaps it is indeed perhaps Dalian's first Type 052D.

Odd; you'd think that they would build these ships in modules rather than from the keel up.

What makes you think it wasn't? Is it because we are "only" seeing the base hull in that picture? Because most ships in module construction start from the hull up before adding superstructure, hangar and other bits and bobs on top.

Besides if you go back a few pages you can spot the DL 052D hull modules. What we are seeing is the result of the hull modules finally put together.

If this is Dalian's initial Type 052D, then they are doing it for the first time and will take their time on this first one to work out all of the manufacturing procedures and policies.

Probably quite a bit different than their own techniques for DDG construction that were last employed...when? in 2004 and 2005 when building the two Type 051Cs? Which were then commissioned in 2006 and 2007?

That's been ten years and more ago now.

Oops, had a look and you're right; it's just uncommon to see the entire assembled hull sitting in an open yard rather than in a covered drydock.

Yes.........i was thinking that as well.

Regarding the build of a warship using the modular technique..............would a shipyard such as 'Dalian', build the ship, using the modules for the 052D exactly the same as JN shipyard, or is there some option on how a shipyard can build a warship to the designers blueprints?

I suspect there would be no reason to not standardise the construction methods for both shipyards unless there were some kind of inherent differences in shipyard competency or if one shipyard developed a more efficient method.

Seeing as JN pioneered and are now experienced with 052D construction it would be strange if DL didn't seek to emulate JN's process, at least not initially.

Nice! I believe these are the first views of 052D's VLS modules...
