052C/052D Class Destroyers

If the Saudis are looking at 12 052DEs, then they are clearly looking at a scenario where they can no longer rely on the USN for protection, which is not as far fetched as one might assume if all the rumours of the petrolyuan are to be believed.

The biggest issue with such a massive purchase would be how they expect to crew all those ships. In that regards, the 052D is perhaps not helping them out as unless the DE is a radical improvement upon the D (unlikely), it will remain a legacy ship design requiring a comparatively large crew.

For the Saudis, an 055E might have been a much better fit as they could get a lot more bang for their buck and have a much smaller crewing headache with 6 055s compared to 12 052Ds, but probably unsurprisingly, China isn’t ready to export the 055 anytime soon.

If the Saudis are seriously doing active preparations for a significantly downgraded relationship with the US, it is also possible they are seeking to convert as much of their dollar holdings into physical assets as quickly as possible, which ironically makes the whole deal much less likely since China is hardly going to want to accept dollars for its warships right now.

Key systems of risks are the same between 052D and 055.
So either way it is somehow mitigated.

I think Saudis will not buy it. 12 052Ds can greatly break the balance in that area. It is not a good idea.
It is possible that Algeria will buy 3 052Ds because this is a reasonable number.

Algeria has conflict with Moroco and Moroco is supported by the West. Therefore, Algeria need to prevent the interference especially from Mediterranean.

Is this authentic footage or not? The resolution is really bad on the end game part.
An HHQ-9 launched from 052D misses what looks like an ASCM target. I would find it surprising if PLAN would allow something like this to be published:

The POH is never 100%, so in a real world scenario they would probably have launched two missiles in rapid succession at the same target.

It looks like a successful intercept to me, we observe the splash.
That guy's tweet was already posted elsewhere, I'm not sure why it needs to be posted here as well when the take is hardly a good one or a logical one. I really don't see why he believes it was not a successful intercept from the video footage.

My thoughts exactly. What would set off the fuse if the seeker didn't detect the target in close proximity? If it were a failed intercept then the interceptor would surely enter the water without exploding.
