It will be interesting to see, when the 055 visibly, starts building at JN, whether they will also still continue to build the 052D, or whether Dalian will fully take over the 052D construction.
Mind you, its possible i presume that at a later date Dalian could also build the 055.

Three high-resolution photos of 172 and 173...

It maybe down to the lighting...........but it does look like 173 has a neater hull construction than 172.
I'am referring in particular to the hanger area around the side opening, where on 172 the panel alignment was truly dreadful, and can also be seen in the photograph above.
I remember this was noticed here, when we saw photos of 172's commissioning......and we put the poor workmanship down to the fact that the first vessel's construction was rushed.

So then, do we now have four Type 052Ds in the water and underway?

Either already commissioned (172 and 173) and in some form of trials (174 and 175)

Alright 174 could be commissioned before the end of this year them. So the PLAN now has 9 Aegis type destroyers...
Hopefully we will soon see the type 052Ds firing long-range cruise missiles in live-firing exercises (or against ISIS, if the the latter beheads more Chinese citizens).

Type 072 is a class of tank landing ship I believe?
Yes...of course it is. A simple typo and I was too hurried this morning to do an adequate check.

I am well aware of the differences in the types...but thanks for pointing out the typo and error.

I have fixed them now.
