Shenyang FC-31 / J-31 Fighter Demonstrator

Is it always the popular guess that FC-31 is targeted to customers abroad plus being the high potential of being the stealthy CV aircraft?

If PLAN is eventually having 4 cat CVs and each one have 40 of it, that is 160 pieces at least in the coming 20 years (the span to have 4 catapult CVs). I count Liaoning to be replaced by a catapult CV some time around 20 years later, that add another 40, then possibly the current domestic built CV will be replaced adding another 40. In total 240 and more.

We know sooner or later Pakistan and many other foreign customers who are not on friendlier terms to get F-35 will buy FC-31. Some time in the 10 years from now, stealth will be a basic standard of a fighter jet. These customers could easily buy up a total of 400 and more if I count 3 customers with mid sized air force.

So IMO 600 is the realistic minimum, 800 is quite reasonable.

Well if we go by estimations:

6 carriers x 40 jets each (a very optimistic estimate) = 240 jets
PLANAF land-based fleet = 100-200 jets
PAF = 60-80 jets?

Even if we use the above estimation, we still arrive at only 500-600 jets. 800 is assuming that either the PLAAF or a major foreign air force (like the RSAF) will also join the deal in addition to the PAF and six PLAN carriers.

I have put PAF at more than 100 for the role of frontline air-superiority fighters (like their F-16s). If the InAF got some stealthy fighter together with the current Rafale and Sukhoi, 100 FC-31 is still too small.

Yes, 800 will surely involve other foreign buyers which I believe are not going to get F-35. RSAF is one possibility (but strategic positioning not clear yet), if SA does make the choice, their numbers will be very big. There are other potential buyers whose air force operate fighters in the hundred such as Egypt.

Q: That! Can our total output of the four generation machine exceed 2000?? Including the annihilate 20 annihilate 31...
The US bought nearly 2500 F35...

A: The air force prepares to use 20 simultaneous pkF22 and 35, the quantity will not be small, the Navy likes 20, but must wait, might as well first create an eagle hawk top.
Q: Isn't it better to pass the project? The completion of the first flight is not yet approved. Is it true that the Air Force has not sold hard enough to set up projects?
if not ...

A: The joint naval declaration of AVIC has nothing to do with the Air Force.
Q: The Navy airmen are the big plates. As you say, the air force does not see 31, the Navy prefers 20, and the navy can only wait for 20 by 31. If it is based on this theory.

A: AVIC has always hoped to use foreign trade or naval forces to force the Air Force. The Navy uses a lot of money and can share the air force's share as much as possible. This time, we also feel surprised. After all, 13E has already been taken away by 624. Suddenly, it has returned suddenly and quickly. .

That's a subtle way of taking the piss. Either that or you're unreasonably enthusiastic about an unproven fighter that we know very little about. I think you're on SAC's payroll :p

NO, I'm not doing the dirty on the J-31, and yes SAC is going to donate the Black J-31 proof of concept aircraft to AirSHO BRAT! so in a way I am technically on their payroll, and no I'm NOT unreasonably enthusiastic about the FC-31,, I'm very pumped by this airplane, and I can't wait to get the proof of concept bird here in the states, where I'm going to demonstrating the J-31 around the country, leading into flight demo's of the F-35!

Gongke101 gave some insightful details regarding the entire approval process of the FC-31 project (at least for the PLAN). The Chinese is beyond my scope, so if someone can do a brief translation that would be quite useful.

So PLAN is interested in carrier J-20, implying preference? Sorry I'm hopeless at understanding translations.

No matter how clean a J-10 and how much RAM they slap on the plane, it won't be as stealthy as J-31 when it goes into production. That's gotta be obvious the rumour was false.
