Re: Georgia Attacks South Ossetia, War With Russia Looms

It would be stupid if Russia gets involved into this war. Why? Wars aren't fighting between Putin and Bush, but a whole country's army and economy. A full scale fight would simply pull down Russia's economy. If Russia is wise enough, it should call the UN to stop the war. The Georgian are sure about this point, so they play a chicken game with the Russian "... hey come if you dare... hehe..."

CONFIRMING POSSIABLE AIRBORNE OPERATIONS- major roadways leading south from tblisi to airports/airbases have been heavily bombed to prevent movement south.

sources-believe GRU/Spetsnaz operation via Armenia in the works. TURKEY very upset if this were to happen as they have poor relations with Armenia.

declaration of war by georgia very near. tonight or in the morning and formal request for combat supplies from friends.

REPORT- A Brigade size force of 150+ tanks and AFV may be bypassing Ossetia and heading towards Gori south of the Ossetian capital. This is flatter land more Ideal for tank warfare. This would also be a sign of major escalation if airborne troops take airfield south of Tblisi. Roads are being bombed to prevent Georgian movement

My sources now are certain of a move on gori 18 miles south of Ossetia by russian armour and GRU. GRU and N. Ossetian volunteers now ordered in to fight urban battles.

U.S marines and special forces are giving direct advice based on satilite images. Russia prime mission now to take out those 155 DANA and LAR 160mm with GPS targeting as they are kicking the crap out of the russians with very compentent use of ARTY.

30 confirmed Georgian troops KIA in Ossetian battle. Unknown number of russians. I Have heard dozens more russians dead on top of the 27.

Please be advised info from a friend states fighting more heavy than any in recorded history with the amount of accurate ARTY, Tanks and special forces. (The s. ossentian capital is gone.) He believes thousands of Civ and hundreds of military dead. Russia has taken a noise bleed and stuck north of urban capital. Also Sat morning was shock and awe russian style because of this all around Georgia. Georgian T-72 firing 100 yards into russian military barracks. 100+ dead or wounded.

Re: Georgia Attacks South Ossetia, War With Russia Looms

    Curious question:

Many, and I mean many, places on the internet are reporting that the Georgians started heavily shelling the South Ossetian Capital with great civilian loss before the Russians moved in with that as a cusus belli. Now, I don't see this piece of information on CNN and BBC reporting of it. Either I'm blind, this information is false, or it's being downplayed by the two. Just wondering, can someone confirm this for me?

    Thanks

With that being precise i believe Russia will launch a massive bombardment of Georgia.
What would be USA reaction then, in your view.

If USA satellite imagery is being given to Georgia army, this not mean

that USA is at war with Russia?

USA reaction will be to arm Georgia via Turkey, and continue with giving them situational awareness. Georgia now starting conscription ages 18 to 40. In two weeks Georgia will have 100,000 men and growing with U.S CIA Special activity groups and DoD Special action groups helping on the ground.

The airlift of Georgian troops from Iraq will also have ATGW,mines, and plenty of ammo. Russian moral will began to wain as non-stop snipers and attacks kill many Russians. Russia will then leave a beaten nation.

The power of Georgian Arty has stunned many. Train the trainer and GPS info warfare via ARTY is really hurting the Russians. The LAR-160 with cluster munitions from Israel and the Israeli SPIKE ATGW is huge problem for russian forces. But most of all the 4 years of Marine and Ranger/special forces training and fighting in Iraq has given Georgia a very good individual fighting man. IE Georgia is zipping russians with 5.56 55 grain FMJ in lower abdomen to wound and take out 2 more troops to help the wounded. This is a Marine tactic and is used now by Georgia.

Look, I'm not doubting you personally utelore, but do you have any sources for these statements of apparently stunning victories by the Georgians? I'm also curious about this.

yes, by your account, Utelore, Russia will have to quit.
But i don´t believe that Russia will accept easily this defeat without charging a big price from Georgia.
If Russia will want to stand with some moral strenght them they will bombard

Georgia to their ashes as Israel did with Lebanon and as Georgians are doing with the South Ossetians.
Russia can´t let this aggression against South Ossetia to be unpunished.

I think Utelore is setting himself for a fall by predicting Russia will be defeated soon. Unless he thinks Georgia is gonna fight a guerrila war?

And we all know what happened to the Chechnyans in the end....the Georgians can do as they want, yet the Russians are going to win by their overwhelming superior firepower and numbers. The Russians are not like Israel or the US or most other Western countries, they could care less about the casualties inflicted upon their own troops or any casualty they inflict upon anybody else (be it civilian or military). This is simply a border skirmish right now, and a full blown war will see the use of just about everything non-WMD in Russia's arsenal, and that is what I call nasty....

Re: Georgia Attacks South Ossetia, War With Russia Looms

I think both sides figured that a ceasefire will be called once the conflict elevates to the strategic bombing stage. The reason is that when strategic bombing takes place, the US will have no choice but to become more actively involved. And they don't really want to start a much bigger conflict, so they must negotiate.

Georgia figured that they will take as much territory as possible prior to this happening, this will leave them will greater control over the separatist regions and any ceasefire will mean the Russians don't get to move their military in under the guise of "peacekeeping."

The Russians are going to push as far as possible before strategic bombing begins, leaving Georgia devoid of any further NATO influence and planting it firmly under Russia's sphere of influence.

The question is: what if a ceasefire cannot be negotiated and strategic bombing continues with US forces in the region, unable to leave with fighters controlling airspace?
